I was just stunned that he had no problem going for it on 4th down when his team was up 35 but not show he has no fear when the game was tied in the
2nd qtr. Very Disappointing Moment in last night's game

Did you just wake up or are you this stupid ? It's been answered. Going for it on 4th down allows the defense to stop us. Kicking a FG doesn't.

Yes, a coach should make exactly the same strategic decisions whether up by 35 in the 4th or tied in the 2nd.

Kicking the field goal is the only sensible thing to do in that situation. Do you not see a difference between a tie game and a blowout late?

Eagles were playing defense so kicking the FG instead of risk losing the ball on downs made sense. The Bills were playing dead so the odds of converting were pretty high. If you think the probability of converting is higher than 42% you should go for it. Less than 42% kick the FG.

Then why go for it on 4th down when you are up 35?

Well then going for it on 4th down when beating a losing team by 40 makes him look like a Wimp. Don't do it at all

We won by a field goal right? The Patriots success over the better part of the last decade was built in large part on field goals right?

I'm going to give Belichick the benefit of the doubt until/if I
    a) coach football
    b) coach football professionally
    3) win at the professional level
IV) win at the professional level three times
    e) have a book written about me
ses) have zero losses in december

To give the defense a chance to stop you. Sigh.

There is no inconsistency. You are ignoring his answer either intentionally or due to a lack of information.

So the other team can at least attempt to stop you, instead of almost definitely putting points on the board. Do you pay attention at all?

Are you serious? There's not much to lose when you're up 35, but if you're tied, you go for the sure points, unless perhaps you have just 1 yard to go.

    Very disappointed in this post.

And you know, this kind of underscores the whole running-up-the-score business. When you're up by 35, BB would eschew the sure 3 point field goal and go for the riskier attempt of 4th down and more than a couple yards to go. Of course, we can't help if if the other teams are too inept to stop us.

This was clearly not the case last night though. Philly was playing good D and going on 4th-and-medium was too risky.

I'm guessing that you are being sarcastic here...right? Different situations call for different plays. going for it on 4th down with a big lead is allowing the other team the chance to stop them from scoring rather than just running it up needlessly with an easy 3 points.

Stop talking, stop thinking and just listen...

There is only ONE POINT for a field goal in the NFL, there is absolutely positively no other reason to kick a field goal except for when you NEED POINTS.

Why is this point so hard for people to understand?

    Tie game: NEED POINTS

Big lead: DO NOT NEED POINTS

Why? Because he could , can / coulda / shoulda. BB can do anything he wants and still come up smelling like roses. Anyone that wants to think their football saavy is better than his can file a resume' for Head Coach with Kraft. Actually, I think he did it just to see your Post today. HA
