I obviously don't post an awful lot, but the circumstances of this miserable day I've had, and this particular question was so good... I just couldn't help but share my thoughts.

You see.... Super Bowl 36 was easily the greatest single moment in Patriots history - the moment when the 42-year-old ugly duckling finally turned into a swan.

That said... It was their very next game that did it for me. A whole year later... the champions at home, hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers in the opening game of the 2002 season. Were there doubts? Hell yeah! I loved that Super Bowl more han any other, but it just semed so improbable... I was not...let's say... "overly confident" when we faced off against "the Burgh" in that season opener.

The beating the Pats gave Pittsburgh that night was almost as good as the Super Bowl. It was like an affirmation that everything the team went through was real. It wasn't a fluke, wasn't a mirage, it was the first time that I actually thought to myself, "My God, the Patriots are the best team on the planet!".

You know... I know 2002 turned out to be a disappointment (I'll never forget smashing a beer can and having some of it's liquid remains hit my dad during that late season Titans game), but for me... that opener forever changed my thoughts regarding my favorite team.

Just like the Gillette sound system pumped out that night - Kordell Stewart saying, "Sometimes the best team doesn't win"... well, that night I realized how very special this team was. It made the 2003 & 2004 championships easy to believe. The 21-game win streak was impressive, but it wasn't beyond my realm of reasoning anymore.... With Bill Belichick's Patriots, I knew anything was possible.

There a few moments that would rank up there but for me ifor the game its

Post season 2003 - Conference Championship game - PATs vs Colts

Having Peyton Manning throw 4 ints was one of the sweetest memories I have.

I will always remember him pulling his chin straps off as he walked off the
field defeated ... the great overhyped Peyton Manning.


As far as one moment .. it was watching the rock sail though the uprights
as the last seconds click off the clock in Superbowl XXXVI
... and the realization that ... WE ARE REALLY THE CHAMPIONS!!!!!

After closely following my beloved Pats for 33 years, the winning drive was by far my favorite memory. The feeling of elation stayed with me for hours. The impossible happened. The Pats had climbed to the mountain top. And Gil was right.

P S Funniest moment of the Dynasty was old foe Joe Namath putting a drunken move on Suzy Kolber in a Pats/Jets blowout MNF win in December 2004. TV does not get any better!

My personal favorite was when Willie McGinest jammed his hand inside Steve Smith's facemask in SB 38. Smith looked dazed for a few minutes and didn't catch another pass in that game. I enjoyed seeing it happen to that trash-talking punk.

Who said the dynasty is a thing of a past? A "was?"

Like I said, there's more to look forward too than there is to look back upon.

It's the NEXT MOMENT. The NEXT CATCH. The NEXT FIRST DOWN. The NEXT WIN.

All those past achievements are nice and dandy, but wins and dynasties are produced from past moments.

SB XVIII, when the Pats became the first team to win 3 straight SB's and eclipsed the Steelers and 49ers for the franchise qith the most SB's

Too many to pick so far. Some of my favorites to date:

Maybe Steve Smith and Muhammed hamming it up on the sideline after a TD and then one looking at the other turning totally serious and saying "we need to get another" and getting the response "no kidding with that dude at QB."

It could be "Tedy did you rattle them early?" "Rattle them early? They got 3 points. We rattled them all day!"

Or maybe BB and Rodney on the field after the AFC title game against Indy where after each guy thanking the other BB says we still have one more to get and Rodney turns dead serious says "Yes sir" and walks away.

I'd probably go with BB sideline interview just before kickoff at Pittsburgh in 2005. He echoed his pregame speech to the team by telling the reporter he had total confidence in this team, that every time he told them they needed their best game they had delievered and he knew they were going to deliver again today.
