Week 2 Ray Rice backlash: Carolina Panthers deactivate Greg Hardy

Good. Violence against women and children cannot be condoned by these teams. The individual team owners and GMs have to show that they are responsible employers, and that they respect their fans to understand when deactivating, suspending or cutting a player due to unacceptable conduct is necessary.

Bob Kraft and Bill Belichick didn't hesitate to release Hernandez before the legal system ran its course and others need to do the same.

They need a consistent policy on this stuff. Indictment = suspended with pay, conviction = suspension, period.

It's too bad it took the Ray Rice video to bring more attention to this case. Hardy really seems likes an absolute jerk and the only thing better would for him to go to jail.

Certainly no reason to absolve them of guilt, given that they bowed to pressure, but the fact that the pressure is being felt in front offices across the league makes all the difference in the world for future cases. In most businesses, there would be some recidivism and regression toward the mean, but people actually care about football (as opposed to the business of investing or making cars or developing anti-cancer drugs), so this is likely the sign of better times ahead.
