I've listened to WEEI sports radio since they started. I'm a sucker for Boston/New England sports talk, so I can't stay away from it. I'll admit, my Irish heritage makes me a natural for all the yelling and arguing that goes on during the Big Show.
But one of the things that does get under my skin is the number of callers who THINK they're experts. I've even listened to guys who call in and talk as if they attend every Red Sox spring training game and most of the single, double & triple-A games. To hear them talk, you'd think they really believe they are professional scouts.
The self-appointed Patriots experts talk as if they attend every Patriots practice and are even invited to attend off-season strength programs. To me, it is the epitome of "Get a life" when I listen to these guys.
I heard a guy call in yesterday and make the statement, "Matt Ryan is not an NFL quarterback. He is the product of a system..." And the guy made the statement as if it was the truth and then went on to rattle off who the quality players were in this year's draft. He never once qualified his statements with "In my opinion", he just spoke as if he knew "more than the rest of us".
I can't stand fans like that who claim they are Celtics, Patriots, Red Sox, Boston College, Bruins, Pawsox & Sea Dogs season ticket holders. They always forget to tell us they are 45 years old, work part-time & live with their parents.
