Very thin @ CB.. Will a trade for an experienced CB be viable?

Are we content with our CB lineup or do we make a last minute trade?
I don't think Coach Bill is ever content, but that doesn't necessarily mean anyone better will be available at a fair price.

A third for a one year rental? That's a lot.

1/2 year rental, and it's hard to project what the value would be on a longer term deal in FA.

Gil Brandt said he could see him go for a 6th. Listed Smith to Pats as a trade that he could see happening.

I'm willing to do a 3rd max simply because they're getting that 3rd round comp pick back from Revis. If they can get him for less then that would be even sweeter.

Sean Smith would make this backfield unstoppable imo. He can play press coverage as well.

Our secondary is taking care of business now but it's getting helped out by the pass rush. If any of our front 7 goes down then it will affect coverage too.

Ask me what we should have done later on if we have to play the Steelers again. Butler and Ryan are holding things down right now as the top two CBs, but Roethlisberger with Brown and Bryant against them might be the biggest threat along the road to Santa Clara.

Football Outsiders have Sean Smith ranked as the 6th best CB in the NFL for 2014, so one may see a sixth round pick as kind of low, depending upon personal opinion. I don't think he's anywhere near that good myself, but his size, experience, and talent should allow KC to get something more than just a 6th.

Common sense would point to KC being able to recoup something in the 4th-5th round range from a comp pick alone if he signs anything close to a multi year 7-8m dollar deal AAV, which I think is reasonable. Of course, they'd have to wait another year to see that comp pick, which may push them to get something this spring via trade, rather than next spring via comp pick.

Justin Coleman seems serviceable as CB3. No worse than a Sterling Moore, which is probably all that's available.

Rashaan Melvin, however, did not look good as CB4 today in garbage time. They probably need to acquire somebody in case he doesn't pan out. One turf toe and he's on the field for real.

What we REALLY need is another thread about mythical trades for a CB. You know, since teams are lining up to help out the Patriots.

heh...TommyD folks....blunt...force...trauma...

I think what they really need is a few more safties

I've been the secret president of the Duron Harmon fan club for a while now. He's the perfect example of a mid-round pick who's been in the system for a couple of years, working from the end of the bench up to starter, and he's the best playmaker (consistently anyway) in that secondary now.

...so...YOU'RE the guy, eh?

That's me. Hard to proclaim how good he is, when he's constantly being **** on, because Mel Kiper said he was taken too high. :)

I'd have to imagine that a guy like Swanson could be a candidate, since he already knows the system, etc.

Otherwise, McCourty would have to factor into the equation somehow as an emergency CB in some capacity--at least for the injury scenario you've provided.

FYI all of these scenarios involve Draft Picks.. in 2016, we have a very few picks.. 2nd, 3rd, 4th and two in the 7th.. we already traded away #5 for Keyshawn Martin and #6 for Jon Bostic..

Even in 2017 Roger, in an effort to destroy this juggernaut, took away the 4th round pick..

He is playing at a whole new level this year.

It is a joke that NE doesn't have a 1st rd pick. Seriously! F'ed up?
