No it is not, in order to be "under" anything there must be be a reference to be under. The Operations manual gives the pressure for them to be 2 hours before the game, not mid game. No reference point exists in NFL regulations. There's no more evidence they were under where they should have been then that they were over where they should have been because there's no reference to where they should have been.
Your right, I don't have any proof the NFL didn't go around checking balls mid game and have extensive data on where they should be mid game at 40f in Gilette stadium. You don't have any proof they do have that information. Let's go with the one that's far more likely, and not completely ridiculous.
I don't know how to make it more clear. If part of your job is PR, and you turn jaywalking into the Lindburgh baby scandal, you're not very good at your job.
They most certainly are not the police. They protect their rules, to protect the integrity of the game, because the integrity of the game is crucial to their brand and sales. All sub tasks of protecting the brand are a means to an end of protecting the brand. If one of your sub tasks smears your brand then your ****ing it up. If you smeared your own brand because you didnt know about how footballs fluctuated in pressure for many reasons (as now appears to be the case) then you royally ****ed up.
Plenty of companies investigate themselves for various rules. If the investigators managed to smear their brand or people working for the company over nothing but piss poor investigation techniques they would likely find themselves both apologizing and out of a job.
Yeah, we don't know for 100% yet, but if this is all one big nothing, they most certainly should apologize for being so ham handed and incompetent if it is.
