If Jonathan Martin, offensive tackle from Stanford, falls to the #27 overall pick, I would not doubt that Bill Belichick gets a call from Andy Reid. Please consider the fact the Philadelphia Eagles own two second round draft selections, so trading up may be an option. The Philadelphia Eagles could be searching for a long term solution at left tackle due to the Achilles' tendon injury to Jason Peters.

What are you talking about?
I didn't edit anything there.
Way to try to BS your way out'f getting BUSTED, buddy!!
Classic!!
Essentially a one year deal though. They signed Demetress Bell of the Bills to a five year contract.
He's in the business of putting together the best team he can, and trading down into the 2nd round has NOT worked out.
Passing on Clay Mathews to accumulate picks and take 2nd rounders like Ron Brace and Darius freaking Butler did NOT make us a better team.
From 2006-2010 we have had 15 picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Out of those 15 picks only 4 have turned out good. 11 have been BUSTS on our team. I am not counting last year since it's too early to tell still.
Like I said, he obviously wouldn't have had a projected Top 15 player like Melvin Ingram visiting Gilette if he wasn't considering trading up.
Even Brockers would most likely require trading up about 5-10 spots to pick.
BB wouldn't waste time and resources having these guys visit Gilette if he had no interest in trading up.
RUN, Forrest, RUN!!
Mr. Drake, I like your thread, and I am all for trading up for Brockers, whose game film shows that he is a true competitor who whips the opposing O-Line in the 2nd half when he has figured out how they play him. I am impressed with Ingram too even if he has T-Rex arms.
But for goodness sake, Clay Matthews is not good. He is a one-trick pony who lost his one trick last year; I have a strong suspicion he juiced his way to that one trick anyway. He would NOT fit in with a Belichick defense that demands accountability to your assignment, rather than simply running around wherever you damn well please until you hit the quarterback. He is football's most overrated player. Plus, while Butler/Brace certainly didn't work out, I think it has been proven MULTIPLE TIMES on this very forum that the trade gave the Pats the ammo they needed to secure Rob Gronkowski, who will (barring injury) go down as one of the greatest tight ends to ever play the game. He is already the best tight end I've ever seen. Just for that alone, can we get off the Matthews BS? He's not very good, the Pats got Gronk out of the trade...let's move on. Goodness.
Thanks for the compliment.
I don't see how Matthews is a 1 trick pony though. While his sack numbers went down, his numbers show he's a much more rounded and complete player now. He had career highs in Interceptions and Forced Fumbles last year. And while he didn't put up as many sacks as he did in his first 2 years, he had almost the same amount of QB pressures as he did in their SuperBowl year when he gained popularity. While he may be overrated a tad bit, he's done a HELL OF A LOT MORE than Darius Butler and Ron Brace combined.
My point in showing BB's 2nd nd 3rd round failure rates was to show that we SHOULD trade up because there's a high chance the picks used to trade up would end up as busts anyways.
As far as not getting Gronk goes... We still could've got Gronk in 2010 as we had another 2nd round pick 11 spots later that we used on Jermaine Cunningham.

If ninkovich can play as many snaps as he does, clay would play just as many here. This is a fair point, I just think it's getting tiresome to talk about a player that plays an undisciplined style of football that does not fit in with what the Patriots do on defense. For the Pats, Matthews would be a 1 down player.

heck, he could probably even start at safety for us lol
I want to start off by saying im not a huge fan of brockers or ingram now if you could put the skills of ingram into brockers body that would be one hell of a player, but i do understand the importance of impact players on defense. Which got me doing some research and i found that 49 players have been named to the AP All-Pro team in the last 6 years from the defensive line and linebacker positions. 68% have been from the first round of the draft and 57% have been from the top 15 picks in the draft. Excluding Repeat players 62.5% have been from the first round and 50% have been from the top 15 picks. This proves that it is very difficult to find an impact defensive front 7 player unless you are in the top half of the first round draft. Compared to the offensive which has 36 players have been named to the AP All-Pro team in the last 6 years from the QB,RB,WR, and TE positions. 53% have been from the first round of the draft and 31% have been from the top 15 picks in the draft. Excluding Repeat players 52% have been from the first round and 24% have been from the top 15 picks. After seeing this pattern I would be inclined to trade-up into the first half of the draft for the right player.

How many of those players were on a team that won a Superbowl? How is it that a team could win it all with so few Pro-bowlers?
Hint: It's not about getting pro-bowl players, it's about forging pro-bowl caliber teams.
I actually don't want any guys on my team to go to the Pro-bowl, that just means they'll want more money, I want the team to win games.
Sorry but I personally feel that Ricky Stanzi is a better long term prospect than Brian Hoyer. What about this as a theory. The Pats were dangling Hoyer as an RFA for a 2nd, and KC was an interested party. That conversation could easily have drifted into discussion around whether the Pats would be interested in the #11 pick.
Suppose BBs friend Pioli was willing to give up #11 for a first, a second and some players? Let's call it #27, #63, Brian Hoyer and Ryan Wendell. Two backups for us that can be starters for the Chiefs. KC gets credible depth on the interior line that they need. They get QB depth that they need. The #27 could be Nick Perry and #63 could be Bobby Wagner. That's four good players that can contribute for the Chiefs on both sides of the ball.
The thing that makes it work, the deal is pretty damn affordable for the Pats. Hoyer is going to walk next year anyway, and we have Mallett on the roster already. Wendell has started for us before, and we have options along the interior line, including bringing Koppen back for his sunset years. And, best of all, it doesn't cost us both first rounders.
I could probably paint a similar scenario around the Dolphins at #8. Cleveland at #4 is not viable, but Cleveland might trade down from #22 for considerations which include Hoyer. (Maybe that's where the Brockers rumors are coming from)
