That is way, way too unbalanced. There are 2 too many DTs and 2 too many Safeties.

I remember reading the Patriots liked Brennan Williams before his draft year but, obviously, we didn't get him.

Could be the first of more than one roster move this week.
Strengths

The combination of his height, long arms and athletic build makes him a great candidate for playing on the outside of an offensive line. Due to his length and good depth of his kick-step, he can re-route defensive ends around the outside of the pocket. He also has the ability to stop them in their tracks if they attempt to take an inside lane.

Williams has a very strong upper body and big hands that allow him to grasp a defender and control him throughout the duration of a play. He is a very smart player who understands the nuances of rushing angles and uses his knowledge to defend them properly.

He comes off the ball hard and is able to get to the second level on rushing plays and sustain blocks that can spring a running back into the open field.

Weaknesses

Williams is still a bit raw at the offensive tackle position having only played for a season-and-a-half on the right side of the line. He misses certain subtleties of the game due to this. He has been caught turning his head toward his target, and that can tip off a defense as to the direction of the play.

He does not have elite quickness at the tackle position, which can hurt him in run-blocking and also limit him to the right side of the line.

His ability to lock on to faster defensive ends needs to improve. Williams will allow his hands to slip outside the numbers when he is beaten off the line, causing holding penalties.
NFL Outlook for North Carolina OT Brennan Williams

Patriots were very high on OT Brennan Williams in the draft. Gave him a grade of 7. 3rd round pick Harmon had a 5.5

I know this is silly but both Harmon (Brennan Williams) and Tavon Wilson (Bobby Wagner) were both taken soon after a player the Patriots were linked to pre draft. I just have this picture in my head of the Patriots losing the guy they wanted and Bill just making a "f*ck it" it. Same thing with James White after Devonta Freeman went. A ridiculous as it sounds, it would explain several of our crazy reaches. Not sure what would explain Jordan Richards, maybe Ronald Darby ;) "Bill, we know you wanted Darby, but we're up, who are we taking ? F*ck it, just take another safety".

His father, Brent Williams, also played for the Patriots 1986-1993.

Sounds interesting. Being from a football family is a nice little plus (presumably he has been taught what it takes to be a professional).

6' 6" 318 big boy
Raw

Nice, it sounds like he is a good development project. Good tangibles.

So, for our outside blocking developmental projects, we have:
  • Fleming. Maybe not an amazing athlete, but smart (B.S. Degree Aerospace Engineering at Stanford) and big. Good run blocker. Evidently a fast learner football-wise, played plenty of snaps his rookie season, mostly as a sixth OL. Appeared to play pretty well starting at ROT vs. Colts.
  • Brennan Williams. Pretty good upside, pretty decent athlete. However, still raw and hasn't played any NFL snaps. Could be really good if the light comes on.
So, one smart, strong run blocker that is already contributing and a high-upside guy that hasn't shown much yet but has good tangibles. Seems like a good developmental plan, particularly if paired with our OT masquerading as a TE in Williams (whose based on snap count has clearly become a major contributor).

This is certainly a good player for the Practice Squad. He was a3rd round draft choice, and highly rated by the patriots. He is the kind of player who, if healthy, might be on the 53 man roster a developmental player, as the 4th OT.

well signing a OT was pretty predictable

Williams prepared for his comeback to the NFL by rehabbing with Alex Guerrero at the TB12 Sports Therapy Center in Foxboro and working out under the watchful eye of former Patriots assistant head coach-offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia.

That looks promising. Maybe a light coming on? Let's hope.

From this I conclude that this has been a project for the Pats Empire & we're now seeing the possible fruition.

Some here expressed concern about mixing nerds and football...Brennan Williams is not going to be your guy.
