Welcome back Joe Vellano

Patriots sign Joe Vellano to a future contract

The Patriots are bringing back a familiar face to the defensive line.

The team signed Joe Vellano to a future contract on Tuesday, according to his agent, Sean Stellato.

Vellano played in all 16 games and made eight starts as an undrafted rookie in 2013. He finished with 54 tackles and two sacks. He spent most of 2014 on the Patriots' practice squad, but appeared in five games and played in the postseason.

The Patriots released Vellano from the practice squad on Sept. 25. He later spent some time on the Colts scout team.
