As of January 5th, 2009, the Patriots own the 24th pick in the first round (which will be higher after next weekend), the 15th pick in the second round (Chargers), the 27th pick in the second round and the 26th pick in the third round. On top of that, I want to believe the Pats will get a 3rd round COMP pick for losing Asante Samuel in free agency. Admittedly, I'm very excited about the number of possible selections in the first three rounds which is only tempered by the fact that Pioli is interviewing with KC and the front office may go through a possible transition when they would normally be preparing for the draft. I can't say that all of the drafts under Pioli have been marvelous, but he has had some decent classes. Last years class looks as promising as the class that produced Cassell, Mankins and Hobbs, but not as great as the Eugene Wilson, Samuel, Koppen, Banta-Cain and Ty Warren draft class. 2002 wasn't that bad either. But what the heck happened in 2004, 2006, and 2007?
