Rumor Revis to be cut?

"...after the season" should probably be added to the title. Makes it seem like this is referring to the present.

Another kind of misleading headline on this thread and in the article. What it really says is, will Revis be cut at the end of the season (or I guess, at the beginning of next season)? And the answer is, of course, unless he takes a big paycut and agrees to play safety. He isn't up to being a corner any more.

June 1st cut, if there is still such a thing.

Don't want him, don't need him, he's toast. He's been on the decline since last season so he's basically hopeless. Even if he went on the TB12 diet he'd still be a backup to the backup here.
Italics = joke/sarcasm (not to be taken seriously as some don't have a sense of humor or common sense)

Terrible thread with misleading headline. Revis getting cut/released at the end of this season isn't a rumor; it's a formality. Congrats to the New York Jets for one of the worst free agent deals in NFL history, and let this be a lesson anyone who doubts Belichick's value assessments again. Turns out even the contract the Patriots were offering Revis would have also been a terrible deal (just not quite as bad because they factored declining performance risk into it), so sometimes the best deals are the ones you don't make.

What the more appropriate question at this point is, IMHO, is does Revis retire after this season? He has enough money and a SB ring. Why risk further tarnishing that once great reputation as the best in the game and, perhaps, one of the best corners of all-time with another sub par season that sees you getting burned all over the field? Kenny Britt? Sammy Watkins? Really? You used to shut down guys like A.J. Green and Dez Bryant and Megatron, etc. He gave up two TD's to a rookie on Sunday! Yeah, Brady is great and Mitchell is coming on strong, but let's get real. Even a much heavier and slower Ty Law didn't look this bad in his twilight.

I got much luv and respect for Revis because of 2014. But he's cooked. He knows it. It's on display every Sunday. Even he has admitted that he feels his body is breaking down. When you've had to cover so many of the game's very best by yourself for years . . . it's understandable. Time to call it a career, chap.

Revis' entire 2016 salary of 17 Million dollars (said with the Dr. Evil accent) is guaranteed, so cutting him this year would make absolutely no sense.

His 2017 salary is down as follows:

2 million dollar roster bonus
$333,333 prorated part of his signing bonus
13 millon dollar salary of which 6 million is guaranteed.

So his total cap number next year is 15,333,333, the Jets can save 9 million in real money by cutting him before his roster bonus is due (usually the beginning of the league year) and (2 mil roster bonus and 7 mil in salary.

Revis would still count as 8 million against their cap (as opposed to 15,333,333 if they don't cut him).

So yes, there is some decent financial and cap advantages to the Jets if they cut him next year.

Will this not put the Jets in cap space hell if they cut him ?

That idea made sense when people were only worried about declining athleticism, but now Revis' willingness to tackle seems to have sharply declined as well.

Precisely the point I made in another thread. He's stood by and watched guys with a full head of steam blow by him this season. The 2014 and before Revis was not just a great cover corner, he was a sure tackler. No more.
As to signing him (never happen) I'd rather see the CBs we have get more reps, as incredible as that sounds.

yes and no, they would still have to pay him 8 million for not playing (6 mil for the portion of his '17 salary that is guaranteed and his accelerated signing bonus of 2 million). BUT they would reduce his cap number from 15,333,333 to 8,000,000.

People online pulling stuff out of their ass doesn't constitute basis for rumor.

The Jets don't have the BBesque balls to cut Revis, that would be admitting their major coup from us was an abject failure.

Why sign a guy who blames everyone but himself for the mistakes he's made?

Darrelle Revis exposed by Tom Brady and Patriots in Jets’ loss

What could quite possibly be Darrelle Revis’ $17 million farewell tour with the Jets added another rough chapter in Sunday’s 22-17 loss to the Patriots at MetLife Stadium.

Revis surrendered two touchdowns in the loss, including the game-winner in the form of an 8-yard touchdown pass caught by Malcolm Mitchell inside the two-minute warning. …

“Zero coverage. We had to protect inside, there’s no middle safety in the field,” Revis said, describing the play. “Protecting inside and they ran out routes.” …

Revis blamed the touchdown on the scheme, the Patriots running the exact play to beat it, and the pass rush failing to reach Brady.

“That’s the weak spot in the defense is the out routes,” Revis said. “I could have played outside technique but I’m leaving the middle of the field open. Definitely on that play the rush is supposed to get there.”

I bet if a janitor was in the vicinity of that interview he would have blamed him too.

All this revis declining talk has really increased my respect for Champ "was-a-touchback" Bailey.

Revis would be a fantastic FS if he can swallow his pride and play there like Woodson did.

Seems clear from Revis's words and actions that he realizes that this is his last year. So far in his career he's earned ( Darrelle Revis ) $118,211,130 in cash earnings. No need to earn more, and without doing a thing other than being Darelle Revis he will get another $6M spending money for next year.

they are already gonna be there

as of today, the Jets are already over the cap for next year by @ $500,000 compared to the Pats who are 63 million under it.

However, the Jets can create 25 million dollars with of cap space (with no dead money hits) by cutting Mangold, Richardson, and Marshall.

Plus another @7 million in cap space by cutting Revis.

They really should have moved both Richardson and Marshall at the trading deadline, at least get something in return for them.
