Rex on the Patriots: "They're clearly the best team in football, that's what all the experts say. Except me."
    via breer twitter.
i thought everyone on NFLN and everywhere were saying the jets were team with least flaws and finding a way to win with a clutch qb whereas the pats are winning with smoke and mirrors with a bad defense. I guess rex is just trying to boost his team up like us vs the world.

I gotta say, this fat slob is growing on me. He probably said it with a grin on his face. If I had the opportunity, I would probably enjoy a beer with him.

Yes he did. I'd love to knock his teeth down his throat then toss back a couple of beers.

I was thinking the same thing. You have to give him credit, his hilarity is producing results.

    Let the games begin!!!

Add me to that list too. His yapping is comical but it is producing results. Nothing speaks louder than victories. At first the guy was pure irritation, however listening to him at this point, you have to take what he says within context of being a sarcastic loudmouth with a sense of humor who wins games.....from that POV it's entertaining. Now let's have him drown his late Monday night sorrow with 5 quarter pounders.

Rex has temporarily earned the right to talk his crap about the Patriots. He's up on BB right now 2-1 and they have a real shot at sweeping the season series and ending Brady's home win streak. Let's face it, the Jets' wins haven't been any more or less impressive than the Patriots. Sure people are going to say the Patriots have been playing stiffer competition, but this is the NFL. A win is a win no matter who it's against, and the Jets have been finding ways to beat everyone they've played in recent weeks, just like the Pats.

    Rex Ryan = Brian Dennehey

    Both emotional guys.

Jets have serious talent that can cause every team lots of trouble. However, they have had close calls against their last three teams - Cleveland, Detriot, and Houston. Before beating Cincinnati (Every team beats Cincy this year).

Winner of this matchup probably gets top seed in the AFC and the easiest road to Dallas.

Rex Ryan is doing a good job, with lots of talent.. no matter what he says or does still think he is an idiot.

I find Rex pretty entertaining to be truthful. I'm sure he's an all round sorta guy and would be fun to be around on a personal level. That said he's the Jets head coach which is meh.

Seeing as this is a Patriots boards we don't really assume people will be butt-hurt about a funny remark regarding Rex Ryan.

rex is harmless, but i just can't stand loudmouth braggers who have no humility and don't know when to shut the hell up. i wouldn't hang out with him because all i'd hear about is him, him, him. i'd rather shoot myself.

Look, love him or hate him, there's a few things about Rex Ryan:

    1. He's a good/great (not all-time great) coach. This isn't news. Trent Dilfer is a Superbowl champion because of his defenses. And let's not pretend his mentorship/system didn't contribute to how great a player Ray Lewis became. (I'm talking on-field here, obviously.) The Jets are also winning games. Their defense is still the best in NFL too. And they're winning tough games. If that was the Pats winning all those close games we'd be saying "that's what the great teams do" but since it's them we're saying "they're not really elite." Look I HATE the jest and by extension I have to hate their coach. But that's sports hate and I don't let it cloud my vision to the fact he's doing a good job.

    2. The trash talk is his style just like being abrasive with the media is BB's. They're both valid, and both styles anger as many people as it does endear them. Yin/Yang. Both styles translate to the team too. The Jets play with a TON of confidence. We play with GREAT execution. Both are ways to win.

I mean, let's put this in perspective. Is he REALLY harder to deal with than Mangini? How about Dungy? I hated seeing Parcells on the sideline a LOT more than Ryan-- especially because I felt like he stole Curtis Martin from us. And at that point in time, I thought our franchise would be doomed for decades. (Pete Caroll era still haunts me.)

By all means be annoyed if bravado just bothers you in general. And feel free to hate on a Jest coach because he's part of the Jest. But I can't recall the last time someone had a REAL criticism of the guy other than that he's loud and fat. And if that reflection in the mirror I'm seeing is accurate, the same could be said about me too. So maybe that's why I can see beyond it better than some others. But give the guy his props as a coach. He IS a good football coach. (I think he's a better coach than his dad and brother too.)

Marvin Lewis was D Coordinator when Baltimore won the SB. Fatso was a postional Coach IIRC.

Hats off to Baltimore for winning it all 10 years ago.

After a month of looking rather unimpressive (yet beating) a lot of bad teams, I would think Ryan would not want to talk trash. But it isn't in his nature.

The Jets could be in for a rude awakening over the next month. They cannot play like they had over the last month or so and beat their upcoming opponents (Pats, Steelers, Bears, and Dolphins who always give them fits). Ryan should be more concerned about that than talking trash. But he might be buying into this "Team of Destiny" crap that has been gaining momentum because they have lucked into several wins. Teams of Destiny usually become that because they do what the Jets are doing against great teams, not just the bad teams. The Jets have yet to prove that they can do that.

Right now the Pats are more battle tested playing teams like the Steelers, Ravens, and Chargers more recently. The Jets haven't played a good team since the Packers who they lost to and prior to that it was probably the Dolphins in September.
