    Hear me out.

Ok, so a few years ago our D was bad/injured and they needed help badly. So BB put Troy in on D and Troy did quite well. Actually if I recall, he actually had a very important interception/stripped ball against SD in the playoffs. I could be wrong, I'm a little wasted at the moment, but I think I recall him making a huge play on D in that game. Maybe it was a regular season game, I can't recall.

Anyways, I was thinking with how bad our D is right now maybe we should try some new tactics on D. Perhaps like, Moss on the D as a Safety or something... Assuming Moss is amiable to the idea of course which is not a given.

The reason I'm thinking this is because a lot of us (including me) are worried about Brandon Marshall torching us this week, which is almost a given at this point if our D does not improve. And I could be wrong, but I don't believe we have anyone of his size on our D that could go up against him. BUT, Moss could... and could probably shut him down or at least limit him.

I also think that another benefit of this would be that Moss would feel more useful, and it would perhaps, hopefully make Moss happier being able to be bigger part of the team, and at the same time show the staff that Moss should be resigned. Again though, this all depends on if Moss is even willing to consider playing a secondary role.

And yes, I realize that the con of this could be that Moss might be too tired to play on O to be effective. But I think it might be worth considering, because lets face it, our D is scary bad. They try hard and you have to give them A for effort, but effort doesn't always cut it.

Anyways, let the bullets fly, I'm sure I'll get ripped by some for even suggesting and thinking this lol.

Allright, so I don't get how everything works. Any chance someone can explain why its a bad idea? Aside from saying I'm stupid for not knowing why its a bad idea. I get it, I don't know football, but why is this not worth considering?

Don't let anyone tell you that your idea is not a good one. It's brilliant!

Was that a play on words? I bet it was. Good one!

Thanks bud. We're all friends here.

Anyway, I don't know if anyone will really answer your question. Troy was a very special player and the exception to 99.99% of how the NFL works. Players don't go both ways any more (despite what Jets fans say about Brady). WRs don't have the skill set to play DB and there's no way that the Pats would unnecessarily risk injury to their second most important player. Playing defense is a skill- it's not just about physical ability. Moss does not have those skills because he has not been trained in that area. I mean, he'd do a better job than you and me out there, but a worse job than Butler.

Lets have our 33 year old deep threat burning him self out covering people, which he likely wont be the greatest at to begin with. Just because he can out jump people doesn't mean he'll beast it up as a DB in anything other than a hail mary pass.

We need a sure tackler on Brandon Marshall, and Moss is the opposite of a sure tackler. It's just not what he's trained to do. We also need him to run our offense, and he can't play 100+ snaps. When Brown took over as nickel back, I believe he was #4 on the WR depth chart, so he wasn't playing a ton of snaps. There are quite a few other reasons, but those are the two that jump immediately to mind.

Moss is an all time top ten NFL receiver... but not sure he is physical enough to play D... he can take a hit, but not confident he wants to deliver one.

Because Moss needs more bashing on both side of the ball. Seriously, its bad enough we already have people who just want to drive him out of town, if he plays defense and misses one tackle, it'll be pitch fork crowd gathering around his house to drag him out literally. At least you are thinking out of the box, I'll give you that.

You missed it. He got one last year on a hail Mary play to end a half when they put him in as a deep deep safety against Kyle Orton....
Since you asked for it.....here it is...

For the record, I hate the idea. Wasn't that how Seymour got hurt one year, when he was being used as a fullback????

What this team needs is an O lineman/linemen on the D line to stop the run. What this team needs is one of their TE's to play edge rusher. The problems in the D backfield are so obvious because we get a clear view.
The MOST serious problem this team has on D is their inability to stop the RUN.

I thought turning "resigned" into a pun was even funnier. :singing:

Thanks for having the courage to put a far out idea out there.

I actually took your idea seriously for a few seconds and concluded it just couldn't work because the skills to "move with" someone else are different than the skills to "move away from" somebody else. Also, the risk of injury to someone not used to reacting like that is probably enormous.

I have no doubt that Randy could have been an excellent defender if he'd put his talent into those skills, but I think it's a little late other than in Hail Mary situations where you know there is going to be a jump ball in a specific area.

PJ and I have your back.
