NFL Total Access: 5 Best Players in the League

I'd have Brees as the top QB and probably #1 altogether. Not sure how Manning is ahead of him after Brees outplayed him in the SB with what I feel is less talent around him. Having a CB as THE best player in the league [especially the way the league/rules are now] is suspect, I think it should be Brees followed by Manning.

Hopefully this year Brady's back to his normal self and in the discussion.

They'll never rank anyone ahead of Manning. He's their anointed one. As soon as the refs enabled Indy's comeback against us in 06 it gave them a reason to put Manning over Brady, then they gave him 2 MVPs where you can heavily question if he deserved them. Brees had been better than Manning each of the last 2 seasons.

Put Jenkins over Nagata and I agree.

I agree. But Jenkins can't seem to stay healthy. If he could, he'd get Revis style recognition because when he's healthy, he's a beast.

Those are the best players in the NFL? Okay I guess iwth Brees, Johnson and Manning. Ngata is good at NT, but one of the five best in the league? I don't think so. Revis has had one fine year, but it was one year. Maybe wait until next year to see if he can keep it up or slip back to 2007-8 (very good but not one of the top 5)

I agree with this and so do the Jets organization (I'll bet). Probably why they haven't given him a new deal yet. It was an amazing year but let's see you do it again.

Right.

They felt that they didn't want to pay him. They felt this so strongly that they came to HIM after the last playoff game telling him they were going to extend him. The only reason he hasn't been extended yet is because he is being unreasonable with his demands.

I agree...great players make great plays when it matters.

How wes welker isnt on that list is beyond me.
But you don't understand its not paytons fault, the D-back gets in the way.
Also i would say Welker is overlooked and i would put on here before Chokington manning. Welker IS clutch.

Unreasonable is an understatement. I'll tell you that most Jets fans agree that he's being greedy, and agree that just because Al Davis is an idiot, it doesn't mean the Jets should be. But absent a CBA for next year and a possible strike, I can see why this is a huge dilemma for all involved. Worst posible timing for Revis IMO.

So if someone doesn't agree with you they're stupid? I guess we could compare how they each performed in the playoffs this season but nah, we can just chug Kool-Aid instead.

Brady's career winning percentage is something like 76%. Anyone with a brain should pick Brady if their life depended on it.

This right here.

I have a hard time giving a guy who has only had 1 season as an elite player as a top 5 player. If I make my list, CJ and Revis aren't on it til they prove themselves beyond last season. Plenty of guys have had a great year and had a much worse year the year after.

I probably take those two out (at least til they prove themselves through a 5-10 games this year) and add in 2 of Willis / Brady / Andre Johnson / Demarcus Ware

That is very fair also.

With exception to 2009, Brady is arguably the most clutch QB since Joe Montana. He is certainly more clutch than Brees and especially Manning. That counts a lot to me when you're a QB and your team is depending on you to make plays in the spotlight. Without a doubt I would put Brady in the top 5 of the league.

To not do so strikes me as yet another deliberate attempt to insult his career by yet another superficial Pats-hating sportswriter.

The guy has been to 4 Super Bowls while Manning and Brees have been to 3 combined.

Still, it's hard to argue that he is currently the best player in the league based on his 2009 performance, but that doesn't mean he's not in the top 5. My list:

1. Drew Brees
2. Peyton Manning
3. Tom Brady
4. DeMarcus Ware
5. Darelle Revis

Revis makes the list for a truly great 2009, but at this point I feel like Ware is a more proven player, and the best LB in the league, so he gets the #4 spot after the QBs. I would also put Andre Johnson right up there. Ngata is not worthy of consideration, even though he's a great DL. I'd still place Ray Lewis above him as he is certainly a major reason for the success of that team year in and year out, more so than Ngata.

Im sure this list is based on 2009 performances. Who here would honestly take Chris Johnson over Adrian Peterson? Not me.

The top five players should all be quarterbacks, no position has more control over a game. CJ setting a NFL rushing record netted his team an 8-8 record, Brady setting records net his team 16-0 record. And Darelle Revis as number one? Maybe the number one corner, it's arguable, but no way is he even a top 10 player.

Guess we cant depend much on LOMO

In 582 career carries, Maroney has 5 fumbles. I dunno why he went from one of the most secure ball-carriers in the league to... whatever he was last year, but who knows. He's demonstrated over the course of all but one month of his career that he can hold onto the ball.

CJ has great speed and agility, but I think once he is tackled he is tackled, AP has the added strength to get out of tackles, and knock over defenders.

I would take AP over CJ.

Lack of confidence? Maybe he reads this forum ;)

I believe that Maroney was trying hard last year to silence his critics who say he goes down like a sack of potatoes on the first hit (which is usually the case) and he tried to run harder last season - Problem is at this point he does not know how to run hard and knock some guys out of the way AND secure the ball and thats the reason why I think we saw increased fumbles from him in 09 - So far he has not combined the two (hard hitting though defenders and secure the ball) and if he is going to stay in the NFL he better do both and quick before time is up.

Who the hell cares what someone with the last name Baldinger says anyway. Sounds like a gay porn name.
