Marvin Lewis: Belichick is too smart to go after Ochocinco

People seem to forget he was the mastermind behind the Ravens in the early 2000s. He has no power in Cincinnati, he has been made into a puppet.

Exactly what I was about to say, the guy is a defensive genius

If we didn't blow it last year with Boldin we would not be having this conversation.

The ignorance of not even trying to get him or bring him in still pisses me off.

Great post. Well played!!!Here Here!!! That was an very untimely fail on the head of the F.O. Boldin had 67 receptions, 7 TDs and 13.1 YPC on a run oriented team. I will say this without meaning one bit of arrogance, to all who said that move should have been made, that was one where this forum out-thought the Patriots F.O. We may not have 20 and 30 years experience in the NFL but that was not a typical Patriots major miss. Simple fact they were asleep at the switch when that deal was up for grabs....period. No tangible explanation for that gaff. Ozzie won that one.

Fact is we have only one receiver now who is 6' tall and he doesn't even play. The others are 5'9"(maybe), 5'9", 5'10" and 5'10". Revis and Cromagnon enjoy those smurf matchups in the long run.

Are we going to have to listen to "quick twitch" crap on the WR corp now?

Hate to break it to you all, but Chad is not as good as he makes himself out to be. The man is a marketing genius, his fb skills have diminished and T.O. is just a plain jerk. No thank you to yesterday's trash.

As long as it is a short term deal and Ochocinco knows the rules, why not. As long as BB can cut or trade him with out suffering any cap issues waste a high pick etc, why not.

Trade a 6th for him. Let him play out the one year left on his contract. If he doesn't behave cut or trade him. If he behaves and has an outstanding year sign him to a two year deal and three weeks later trade him for a 3rd round pick.

Cause a) he's not good
b) waste of roster space
c) high salary for him
d) waste of 6th rounder

Sounds like the BB and AD from probowl. There is a huge difference between liking someone far to actually playing for BB.

Ocho and TO said yesterday they will love to Join the Jets in there stupid show last night.

When are you people going to learn? Never say what Belichick will never do. He is unpredictable.

Maybe that was what screwed up what should have been a run first team... We ran for 33 less carries but almost 200 more yards and 8 more TD's while only throwing 16 more passes albeit for 400 more yards and 11 more TD's. Boldin opposite 80 year old Derrick Mason and the corpse of TJ Whoseyourmana and Todd Heep accounted for about as much production as Deion Branch in 10 games and Wes Welker...playing on a team with two rookie TE's who commanded lots of targets and produced a combined thousand yards (as opposed to Ozzie's TE's who produced 600 years including 1 from his rookie).

And all it cost Ozzie was another third round pick as well as a fourth and about $20M more.

Stupid, stupid Belichick...

Kraft better smarten up and start listening to fans like DW. You know what they say that would make him...;)

I hate to get irritated, but anyone who doesn't think Boldin would be an animal for this team is trying too hard. He runs all the routes which we like our receivers to run.

I'm not saying we should have spent the money on him, but you don't need to trash the guy to prove the party line or something.

Was that the guy I saw dropping a TD in the End Zone that ensured his team was going to lose? And we need a possession type receiver like that because...?

That contract has a $6M year left on it. Once he makes a roster that is guaranteed, and it's about what Welker and Branch are due combined - so it would cause problems in the locker room even before he screwed up and flapped his gums after BB told him to zip it. He's not going to play for anyone who won't allow him to have a reality show let alone a twitter account.

that's exactly why he said he'd love to play for the fat foot guy.

What the Pats need a young stretch the field receiver -- a rookie who can be the next Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson or Randy Moss. Someone like A.J. Green -- tall, fast, physical, good receiver.

No has beens need apply.

Well great, who wouldn't want the next WR like that. But we are not picking in the top 5, so it's unrealistic.

Several Pats have twitter accounts - two of which were quite candid about their dislike of the Jets. Twitter is not the issue with Chad - Chad is the issue with Chad. 1) He's about himself first and 2) he's not that great anymore! Yeesh people, we aren't talkin' Larry Fitzgerald here. His nick name is Chad Ocho Stinko for a reason. He used to be very good. His current celebrity status makes some think he's much better than he really is now. Do not be fooled. He's older and it shows.

Belichik would have gone after Ochocinco a few years ago but not once he has run out of gas, which he has. I think a more likely move would be Champ Bailey, who while an older player is still an elite corner. he wouldn't go overboard for him and someone likely will but he'd take him if the money was right because he can still play and is a really smart football player.

Because catching a throw by Brady and Flacco is not the same....

I had not seen the throw you are referring to but it certainly could have been different if Brady was the QB

Chad just said he's going to change his last name back to Johnson on ESPN.

Belichick signed free agent Chad Ochocinco today and immediately benched him for the first series of the first 8 games of the regular season for the T-Ocho Show and all his other yapping. Coach Belichick indicated that Ochocinco will take over punt return duties and is forbidden from raising his hand for a fair catch citing an obscure Patriot rule barring cowardice in the face of oncoming tacklers. In his monday appearance on WEEI, Belichick unveiled his four-man punt return scheme - three rushers and a returner - to cut down on injuries and rest players for the 18-game schedule in the new CBA.

Have a nice Patriot career Chad.
