I'm expecting the Pats to draft LS Jake Ingram of Hawaii in Round 6 or 7. You heard it here first. I'm sure you're all going to be stealing that from me in your player draft list for the Patriots.
Actually, we will likely reach for him with our compensatory pick in the 5th and be criticized.
I'm somewhat surprised that nobody has ever tried that, actually - crazy as it sounds. A whole lot more options on third down, knowing you still have one more down to make a first.Screw it : go for 2 after every touchdown and let's go for it on 4th down.
It would not suprise me if Hochstein did it....Save a roster spot and give the job to someone who has been the back long snapper for years. If he has looked good doing it behind Paxton one would think they'ld trust him more to do it moving forward.
I would say we get a Fullback too and your probably right about getting a long snapper only my point was not really about saving the spot but mentioned that as a benifit my point was that BB might just trust Hochstein more than newbie. If Hochstein were to be the Long Snapper someone would have to be his back up as he was Paxton'sLet's see.
Hochstein would hold the following positions:
fullback
long snapper
backup left guard
backup center
backup right gaurd
short yardage TE
He'd better not get injured! I'm all for saving roster spots. I know that Belichick values flexibility, but he also values specialists. I would like to see us add a long snapper and a fullback. I think that we've had both specialists since Belichick has been here, so why do we think that this will change now?

Aside from the guy in Denver that Paxton replaced, there are 100+ college teams that had long snappers last year, so there are probably 40 or more potential candidates available as UDFA after the draft.

Bear Pascoe TE from Fresno is also a long snapper and my choice for a 5th or 6th round pick.
See this thread in the draft section from a day ago:

Ingram is mentioned multiple times in round seven!
Thanks for all the feedback everybody. I like this ace in the hole. The ol' Fresno St. connection. Could happen.
Sure enough. I'm not as brilliant as I think I am.
I don't care who we get, as long as they have as many tattoos as Paxton
