I'm not saying he is the best Guard in the NFL just yet but judging by this season only...did he have the best year out of all the other Guards in the NFL?? This guy was an absolute beast this year. I've seen him Pancake alot of defenders. His blocking in the running game is the best in the NFL IMO. And his pass-protection is pretty good.

What do you guys think? Best Guard in the NFL this 2007 season?

I'll still take Alan Faneca or Steve Hutchinson over Mankins right now - Faneca has had another outstanding year as usual.

However Mankins will be in thier class within a few more years

Mankins is as good as any guard in the league IMO.

Ugliest, yes. Best, maybe.

That personna is somewhat scary and reminds me of the NFL of old, guess it all goes with the image he wants to project.

I like it. The OL shuld be mean.

Yes, Mankins is the best guard in the NFL and has been for 2 years.

I feel in no position to judge, so I'll defer my opinion to, blech, the All-Pro voters.

I predict they'll say yes.

what has set logan apart this year, is he looks like he is playing college again. in college he would get that huge ten yard push on run plays, and was a total rock in pass. it is nice to see that he is already as dominant in the nfl as he was in college.

My buddies a steeler fan and he says Alan Fanaca has tanked it this year. He wanted a new contract so maybe he is disgruntled.

Faneca has definitely had a down year. It could be age, it could just be one of those years, or it could be that he let his unhappiness get the better of him.

Re: Some gurus think so

IS HE BEST?
well, the keenest offensive line observer in the football media thinks so.

Ugly? To me he looks like a rugged cattle man. :)
I find nothing "ugly" about him
... I guess beauty is in eye of the beholder. :rocker:

interesting link, thanks.
Its tough for me to judge an OL postion, I think to really do that you need to watch tape of the game and really study it (which I would love to do, but don't have the time.)

IMO Faneca has not played as poorly as Steeler fans allege. Mahan is awful, the tackles are injured or medocre, Rothlisberger holds the ball too long and Parker is a hit or miss runner who gains nothing most of the time then busts a big gain to keep his YPC afloat. That O-line is almost as bad as the Jets. Without Faneca it would be worse than the Jets. Steeler fans are lashing out at Faneca due to his preseason contract whining. Faneca did suck vs Arizona though. I think he might have thrown that game for his buddy Grimm.

no way is Faneca the best. hes playing well below expectations this year

its between Hutchinson-Mankins-Shawn Andrews

Interesting. I remember Mel Kiper Jr being 'extremely surprised' thinking that Pioli reached on Mankins at the end of round 1 when there was better guys on the board......anyone remember who he thought was a better prospect?

I would say he's one of the Best. Thats why its usually always him who pulls out for those quick screens. He's one of the best i've seen at getting out to block
