According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Foote will be asked to restructure his deal which he will refuse without an extention which is unlikely with Laurence Timmons waiting in the wings. This could prompt his release. I think he could be a really good pick up for the Pats. His production has dropped off a bit this year, but he is 28, well versed in the 3-4, and definitely fits a need at ILB. Granted I question his intelligence since he seems to want to go to Detriot.

Crazy like a fox. Detroit has lots of salary cap money.

Bingo. Over 40 mil isn't it?

I'd be all for that signing.

Given he's won 2 rings, he's probably content to make some money and play in his home state. Does he know the Lions are his home state's team???

The Lions may have been 0-16 but the cubbard is not bare. They have a lot of good young talent. Add a QB (Cassel??) and a couple of seasoned vets that know how to win and they could be a surprise team. it wasn't as if they were blown out 16 times.

I think the Lions are rotten at the head. I think the Ford family are their own worst enemy. I don't think William Clay Ford really cares about the team and seems disinterested in making sure the team gets competitive. Remember the guys running the show were the guy who were working directly under Matt Millen. It isn't like they made a massive change in management. I expect the Lions to be bottom dwellars for a long while.

I can't disagree with any of that. But looking at if from a pure talent stand point, its not as bad as it looks. But yes from the ownership on down they are severly mismanaged.

William Clay Ford has much more important problems than the Lions

    to worry about.

I think guys like Foote and Clark Haggans (a nobody now) are simply products of the Dick Lebeau system. He'll cash in like other SB system guys, deposit his signing bonus and hover back down to mediocrity in a defense with no one around him.

Thats why its the biggest travisty in the NFL that one of the best WRs in the game - Calvin Johnson is overshadowed by his teams ineptness thus keeping his talent under wraps

Well, even when things weren't nearly as bad at Ford Motors, the Ford family were hands off owners. The Lions are arguably one of the worst franchises in NFL history, if not the worst.

The fact they hired Matt Millen who had absolutely no scouting, management, or general business experience is telling how little they actually care about the franchise. Millen's only experience that remotely qualified him for the GM job was he was a former player and a pretty good analyst for television.

I wouldn't say that hiring millen says they don't care; I'd say it says they don't know what they're doing. Keeping millen so long says they don't care.

Al Davis certainly cares, and he keeps bringing in crap.

I say we start developing our own linebackers. If he wants a big payday then retirement, let him.

1st round picks have to wait at LB for the Steelers LOL!1

Well, keeping Millen as long as they did shows they don't care. Either than they are so clueless that they figured out about 3 years after everyone else in the world that Millen was doing far more damage than good to the Lions.

Well, Vrabel was a Pittsburgh LB. Porter had a great year this year. Chad Brown did very well in Seattle after he left the Steelers (2 Pro Bowls and one All Pro selection). The Steeler LBs don't do well once they leave the Steelers is an overrated falicy. There hasn't been all that many LBs who have left over the years because they seem to hold onto most of them (at least the starters) until they break down.

    Let's not go overboard here.

Warner did light them up for almost 400 yards and this is the defense that Tommy does shred everytime.

It seems our guys did hold them to 7 points so I would hold on on the big money for Zeus thing.

Not sure you guys really want Foote - athletically he is very average, not fleet of foot (pun intended), and certainly the weaker of the 4 Steeler LBs (5 if you count Timmons as a nickel LB) against both run and pass. But he is very disciplined and rarely out of place, so that might be a good combo with a more athletic and rangey Mayo.

Detroit is Foote's hometown so if there is truth to the rumor he's going there for personal reasons. And I'm sure Detroit would overpay for him anyway.
