Something else to consider is that this was the Jets only opening to make a SB run and for one reason more than just all of their FA re-signings and the emotional letdown of this loss after all their bluster (and the difficulty generating that bluster they will face next year):
They gave the Pats a rival to destroy.
See, before this year, the Jets were just a team we despise and expect to beat twice a year. If we lose one, it sucks. But we expect to win 2/3 times. It's sort of like back with Indy pre-2006. We never built teams to target them or to beat them specifically. So when we lost to Indy in the AFCCG, what happens?
Belichick builds a leviathan designed to score enough points that no one -- and specifically Indy -- could never hope to lead a late-game rally like that to beat us again.
The Jets gave the Patriots a huge target to aim for this off-season, both specifically in a rival and as a defensive scheme to break. I expect to see major moves this off-season meant to put the Jets back into their hole for a long time.
And I think next year, we're going all the way. :rocker:
