About the Green Beans' "meh" first-round project from NFL.com:
Smallish linebacker. Play strength doesn't come close to matching puffed up listed weight. Balance issues at point of attack could plague him over his NFL career. Has the body type of a big safety. Tape shows few authoritative tackles. Involved in too many arm and shoestring tackles. Comes flying in and fails to come to balance at times. Charged with 21 missed and five broken tackles over the last two seasons. Always at size disadvantage and will have to learn to slip more blocks. Can get better at finding targets in zone coverage.
"His weakness is if you cover him up against a big body, he will struggle." -- Mike Mayock (Patriots have a few of those on offense )
Bottom Line
Lee's level of NFL success might very well be tied to scheme fit and his ability to add more muscle to his frame. His athletic traits and ability to make plays should make him a starter, but he won't unlock his full potential unless he gets strong enough to handle the rigors of an NFL linebacker.

Yup, he's a situational specialist. They might've been better off drafting a pure safety.I think he's that Rover Safety in the NFL, though. In other words, they've drafted him to be a cover Linebacker since it's a passing league. So, BB's acquisition of Martellus Bennett is the reason why this pick occurred ON TOP of already having Gronk here.
You need size and physicality upfront in slot situations, but the player has to be able to move very well in space, too, which is what they hope out of this kid.
Let's be honest, it's a passing league, so you need CBs, Safeties and LBs that can cover, even if you sacrifice run D at times.
My issue, if I was a Jets fan, would be using that approach for someone in Rd 1. The Jets need cornerstone players at too many positions to be dipping into specialty roles.
A Safety who can move and measure up vs the passing game (Pryor can't move outside the box), as a mini-LB is needed.
We have Jamie Collins, I think McClellin is a good example of someone who can cover pretty well as a smallish in space LB player as well.
This guy reminds me of a better version of BB's choice of Matt Wells last year. He's a very poor man's Kam Chancellor, essentially.
No way that is worth a top 20 pick in Rd 1. Classic Jets.
They definitely would have been better off losing it for tampering with Revis....Yup, he's a situational specialist. They might've been better off drafting a pure safety.

If the Jets had any backbone at all they'd get Hoyer's asking price (presumably a lot less than Fitzy) and give Fitzy 24 hours to accept what's on the table or piss off.Hilarious that a journeyman QB now has the leverage on the Jets.
Here is all you need to know: Jets suck.Good afternoon Pats fans,
All this talk of the Jets' pick... what about the Pats' pick? (Sorry low-blow.)
So when our pick was announced I was initially relieved not to hear "and with the 20th pick, the Jets select... Paxton Lynch."
But I'll admit, I then had to take a few minutes to investigate Lee. I don't follow college ball at all so I had only heard of Lee a little bit and those youtube highlight vids with **** music don't help much. Most mocks had him going in the early teens, so I never even looked at him. Hell, when Tunsil was available and the Saints were up, I was hoping we somehow jumped up to snatch him before Miami (sounds like we tried).
BTW, if many of you were part of the NE blackout, ya missed an "entertaining" draft. All the Tunsil and Jack drama was interesting (plus the normal Goodell booing).
No surprise I suppose, but I love the pick. He's a Money-Linebacker. Aka, $LB. Easily the coolest position name on the field. So there's that right off the bat.
Wtf is a $LB you may ask. Good question, and I still don't have that exact answer. But it requires SPEED and some size. A hybrid LB/SS.
At best he's Bowles's Revis. Just as Rex needed 24 to make his D great, Bowles needs a good $LB to make his schemes click. Just like when Arizona drafted Buchanan in the 1st. And there are plenty of other smaller LBs who fill a non-traditional role who are making big impacts. They help against the new NFL offenses that spread ya out.
Take for example you guys. Remember the fist Jet/Pat games last year? The Pats passed like 90+% of the time! My guess is BB realized attempting to run vs our D was a waste (and it was). So he spread it out with lightning-quick passes.
The Jets certainly don't lack power on D, but could unquestionably use quickness.
Enter Lee. Take these fun facts:
Dion Lewis 40: 4.57
Darron Lee 40: 4.47
That speed is gonna come in handy. He can cover, tackle, fly sideline to sideline and blitz. With as fast as Brady gets rid of the ball, getting to him quickly is many times the only option. Will he be a "David Harris" who can bang with the linemen?... hell no! But that's not what this D needs now.
So yeah, of course any draft pick can bust, but I think he was the BPA, helps tremendously with quickness on D, while also filling a big need for Bowles's scheme.
Please feel free to tear the pick to shreds and say I'm wearing green tinted sunglasses. It's good to get opposing feedback.
