Statistically looking at this game PATs should win.

But are Giants a good enough team to pull an upset?
    I think they are.

Defensively they are right there with the PATs, PATs 4th and Giants 6th.

Offensively Pats have a big edge but the Giants can bring pressure on
the QB and that is when Tom has had the most trouble.

But Giants need to score. If Jacobs ankle is no big deal, Giant bring
one of the best running games in the league, 4th. PATs bigest
problem on defense has been run D at times.

So PATs should win if they are on their game but if Giants can keep
Tom on the sideline by eating up the clock with their run game and then
pressure Tom enough to keep PATs score low ... I think they could pull an
    upset. Any thoughts?

If Tom Brady is zoned in on Moss in double and triple coverage then the pressure will get to him. If he utilizes his other weapons underneath then they should be able to move the ball fairly well. This will be the biggest factor in the game.

Re: If Giants come to play ... any concerns?

I see no real concern by PATs fans here. Most in fact are assuming an
    automatic win.
Statements like " the big dogs movin in" are just typical of the attitude
by many PATs fans. Giants fans are selling their tickets and the
lowly Giants will face a swarm of PATs fans come to see the killing and history made.
Brady is freely talking about going 16-0 and is probably typical of the
PATs locker room jabber. Belichick gives the team a walk through in
a short week like they are play Miami or some team at the bottom.
Most sports gurus think Giants won't risk hurting their starters for very
long and we pray Belichick has not bought into that idea.
...... then all of a sudden ... PATs are in a physical game and the ball
bounces the wrong way a few times and the Giants are good enough to
take advantage. I hope I am wrong big time but this could be instead of a
historic 16-0 season ...a historic Upset for the ages and most PATs fans
won't have even seen it coming.
They are confident that little brother of Peyton will throw 3 ints and fumble
    multiple times.
If ever there was such a thing as a trap game .... this could be it.

Re: If Giants come to play ... any concerns?

Actually I am more concerned for the Pats chances of victory if the Giants play the back ups. No game film for bb to decipher.
Of course the Giants starting line up could give the Pats some hell, too.
But as previous a poster noted, if TB can see the entire field and not just RM, the Pats should win easily.

Re: If Giants come to play ... any concerns?

We beat the class of the NFC by 3 TDs, so I'm not all that worried about the NYG. [Eli] Manning is so erratic, and typically, QBs prone to making many mistakes don't fare well against the Patriots/BB defense.

But I don't think they're going to show up. It would be stupid for the Giants to waste time preparing for this game, or even playing starters in this game, when their season will depend on the game the ensuing week.

This game is completely meaningless to them. I know they might think winning will put them in history (or at least, d-bag Chris Collinsworth does), but unless they think ending up as the answer to a Trivial Pursuit: Sports Edition quesiton is history, they shouldn't bother showing up.

I am. Most pundits are not giving the Giants any chance. That must piss off many of the Giant players. I think the Giants are really going to come out hard and try to win this game. So yes, I am worried.

No, except for injuries. I don't want to see anyone get hurt in this game.

Re: If Giants come to play ... any concerns?

Are you really upset with Tom because for pretty much the first time ever, he acknowledged something? This team always says and does the right thing. They would look like morons if they didn't at least say what is on the line, it's too big not to.

I have all the confidence in the world that BB, Tom or anyone else is not walking around this week laughing this game off and already feeling like they have won it. This means something to them. Do you think they've worked this hard all season to blow it off in the last week and take their opponents for granted no matter how much Eli stinks?

Any team can lose any game.
I guess you have made it a trap game in your mind. When is the last time the Patriots were 'trapped'.
You are attaching a mindset to the team that you have no clue about in order to support your opinion.
The Patriots are clearly better than the Giants. Belichick is doing nothing different this week than any other. The team will be prepared, it always is.

Of course most Pats fans expect a win. We have beaten everyone, and many of those teams are better than the Giants. I don't think you need to search for mystical reasons to support your feeling that any team can lose any game. The reality is something extremely unusual wouldhave to happen for the Pats to lose this one. That COULD happen, but it isnt very likely.

Let me just say the Patriots have film, oh yes my friend game film will not be a problem, wink wink.

The Giants are a physical team and are playoff caliber, they will present a chanllenge at home but in the end their secondary will be exposed. Lets have all of our collective fingers crossed for no injuries.

Re: If Giants come to play ... any concerns?

Beating Dallas was only one game, and, statistically speaking, an occurrence of one is practically meaningless. Not that I think the Patriots will lose, but you never know, the Giants might put it all out there on the field and make it a tough game. I keep waking up at night with this game on the brain. Weird.

Re: If Giants come to play ... any concerns?

But we've had 15 such occurrences this season. Don't get me wrong, I think the "any given Sunday" theory applies to the Patriots, particularly in the playoffs. I fear losing, I'm sure the players don't, I'm sure they're confident every week - but as a fan, particularly following this team, with all the history surrounding it, I think you become very aware that they could lose any given game, no matter how great a team they are.

I just don't think this week's game fits the bill b/c the Giants - if Coughlin has any sense... - shouldn't bother really showing up too much.

The teams that have played the Patriots the best have been teams with a quarterback who had a very accurate game. Manning has been anything but accurate lately, which bodes well for New England.

My main concern is Patriots' injuries.
As long as Eli lines up at QB I have minimal concern about winning this game. If the Jints manage to run thru our D and keep the ball away from Brady then we aren't going to win the AFC Championship anyway.

Re: If Giants come to play ... any concerns?

The only thing wrong with your theory is that the Patriots have come to play every week. BB doesn't let the players get ahead of themselves. The Giants are a good team, but they are not a great team. The difference in their talent level will show over the course of the game. The matchup of Brady vs Eli Manning does not favor the Giants, and Pats D vs Giants D is just about even. Giants receivers vs Pats receivers? Big edge to the Pats.

Trap game crap game. The Patriots did not win 15 straight regular season games, then come into the last game against an inferior team to lose to them. The Giants biggest offensive threat (Burris) will not play. Manning will play one quarter, as if thats a big deal. Strahan has mentioned he needs to rest. On the other side of the ball, Brady and Moss need two TD's for records. Anyone thinking they haven't been trying hasn't been paying attention. Anyone thinking they won't succeed hasn't been watching. Belichick wants this game, anyone thinking otherwise must be in a coma. The only factor that will make any difference will be the weather. It will not be whether the Patriots show up.

Re: If Giants come to play ... any concerns?

I really hope Patriots players are not like some of the Patriots fans around here.

The Giants may not be anything special, but they have talanted players on both sides of the ball and we are not invulnerable to hubris. New York has every reason to come out there and play us as hard as they can, so we need to bring our A-game one more time. I have no doubt that we can do it and we all know what this team is capable of. But we must not allow anything to get to our heads or take anything for granted.

Re: If Giants come to play ... any concerns?

That's my take on it too. This game will probably be harder for NE than most fans care to think about. That's what happens every time we think it will be over at halftime.
