Globe looks stupid, again

The reason people complain is that Salem State is a tax-payer subsidized non-profit that has enormous needs. (The claim that the money comes from the endowment foundation, not the public, is lame). But the blame should go to Salem State's administration, not to Brady.

After all expenses and Brady's payment, Salem State netted $40,000.

Without this event, they would have netted nothing.

Some folks at the Globe intend to keep public poor and on the plantation.

thread title updated.

I just figured since they actually reported that Brady donated the money after one of their writers criticized Brady that was as close to eating crow as we'll see.

But they did NOT report it.

They reported that Baker claimed that Brady did. And they did not even report that in the headline: "Baker defends Salem State’s $170,000 payment to Tom Brady"

The Globe has no journalistic integrity when it comes to the New England Patriots. It is an institutional war against Kraft and it has been going on for 2 decades.

Fortunately, fewer & fewer read the Globe these days. Rampant, blatant agenda journalism has caused the audience of this decades ago decent paper to tune out completely.

That's true for all print media but yes- IMO the Globe has lost a ton of talent over the years and their value as providing solid, respectable journalism and thought leadership has suffered greatly.

Apparently they were saying Brady was greedy for charging $170k for the Salem State speech. Being reported that Brady donated that to Best Buddies

So they made about $700k off of Brady and paid him $170k which he donated to charity. So basically Brady helped out Salem State and Best Buddies with that apperance.

This just illustrates how hungry some of the media is to go after Brady.

Yet Manning makes $105k for an hour at Oklahoma State and zero media criticism. Actually I saw some pieces that were comendimg him on getting that amount.

Are you trolling with mis information.?

Two thoughts.
One, Tom Brady is a bankable public figure who has every right to charge what the market will bear for any engagement he attends or speech he gives.

Two, there's a huge difference between telling an event sponsor that it has to deposit $170k into your account for you to give a speech and telling an event sponsor that you will only give the speech if it gives you $170k to donate to a named charity.

Does Borges and Felger know?? They immediately went into the bathroom, returning 9 minutes later with a very big smiles on their faces..

.

That wasn't " smile's."

And they weren't doing a milk commercial.

Lots of colleges have honorariums set aside for speaking. Fitchburg State has the Robert Cormier Series, for example.

It's a story if it's PUBLIC money being spent foolishly. Otherwise, it's trolling.

FTR, where is the Globe claiming any of the nefarious things said in here? People read with a jaundiced eye.

Does this mean if we burn down the Globe we torch Goodell with it???

And use certain reporters as kindling.

I used to buy both Boston papers every day but gave both up when they ran with the "Spygate" bullsh.t. and I have never gone back. Same goes for ESPN, I only turn it on when the Patriots are playing on it. And the same goes for the so called " news " channels, which are in fact just propaganda channels, F.ck all of them, life is much better without them.

All Tom Brady ever wanted to do was to play football, win games and be the best quarterback that he could be.

He worked his @$$ of to get to where he is...the best QB in the history of the game
As a nation over the last thirty years, we have criticized hard work and success. First it was the Yuppies who put their noses to the grindstone and now we criticize those who are successful like Brady...is it jealousy and envy or just a desire to knock down those who " made it"? We ought to emulate them, not berate them....

IMO jealously, entitlement and insecurity are the chief reasons why it is fashionable to crap on the the successful hardworking folks.

For people who are comfortable with what they have accomplished and earned in life, its a non-issue.

Answer: read the 4 articles over the 2 days prior to this last one. The Globe had been the only outlet running the campaign on the story. They had been giving it blanket coverage and trumpeted that they finally got the info on their third attempt via state law sunshine rules after they had been denied twice. No offense, but you are coming in late to the story.

No, i'm not you. None of that is misinformation, idiot.

Really ? That surprises me they made $40,000 not as you suggested ! The Globe just reported a story stated by someone else. ! All your facts are incorrect. You are just trolling. You like name calling don't you.

As bruce allen pointed out, they sent out a guy to find out how much brady was paid but didnt do enough research to find out kraft foundation was not related to robert kraft. Shows you how the media creates news. More than month after brady's appearance they wanted to create some news and fan the flames so they thought of this and even people like PFT picked up this.

Of course they will say "Brady’s agent has declined to say whether he donated the money. A call to Best Buddies was not immediately returned." to further fan the flames. Boston media is the worst.

For anyone who even has the slightest allergic reaction to what Salem State did, needs to comprehend fully this sentence.

Salem State, which costs about $9,000 per year, said the event and fee were funded entirely by sponsors and ticket sales, and that the evening generated a $40,000 profit for the foundation.

Instead of being scrutinized, they should be applauded for realizing a profit for the event. Hell, give those people responsible for organizing the event influential positions on Beacon Hill.

So frustrating being a citizen of this state sometimes....

TOM BRADY PAID 170G TO SPEAK AT SALEM STATE

- Herald headline, June 17

Very nasty article:

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/06/19/state-school-paid-tom-brady-170k-to-speak/

The lede:

Salem State University paid New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady $170,000 for his speech at the school last month. All the money stuffed in the Super Bowl MVP’s pocket still could not get the quarterback to open his mouth much on the subject on everybody’s mind.

And here's a GREAT bit of reasoning, right?

"Based on the school’s listed tuition and fees, which run about $15,000 for in-state students, $170,000 could pay for a free ride for 11 local commuter students over the course of the coming school year."

John Henry must be absolutely loving everything to do with Deflategate because its taking attention away from his embarrassing shi.tbox of a team.

Not really. I was with a group this morning and they were all talking about the Red Flops.
