Flynn at QB?

I've read other, otherwise rational boards, where they think this mean the Patriots are done with Garrappolo. (I don't agree, but if you info comes from national "media" [ re: E!SPN] everything is based on misconceptions.)

Yes, Flynn is good, but he's not a spare starter. :) Heck, he couldn't even beat out a rookie 3rd rounder who relies on a monster running attack in Seattle. :)

Eh. He's not very good. Maybe a little better than Sanchez level.
Dude, he holds a clipboard WAY better. :) Ask any professional clipboard holder.

If he plays... well, I don't want to swear on a family friendly board. Let's just say he isn't Earl Morrall.

QB1 - Brady
QB2 - Garoppolo
QB3 - Flynn
QB4 - Edelman

This is not complicated.

Flynn is a better #3 QB than Gilbert. He can actually start in an emergency. Could we need a quarterback for the Game One roster?

Sure! It is certainly possible that Brady or Garappolo might not be available for Game One. In that case, Flynn would be a much better choice for the roster than Gilbert.

Also, by bringing in Flynn, when he is cut, he would be a player on our shadow roster, a player who could be picked up if needed later in the season.

Finally, if the cost is low, and he plays Game One (guaranteeing his salary), Belichick might keep him on the roster for the rest of the season. It is not really that unusual to have three quarterbacks on the roster. This would give Belichick options over the next couple of years, especially if he extended or re-signed Flynn for 2016. Consider a 3-year extension through the 2018 season when Flynn would be 34. If he looks OK through camp, this would provide solid option for the team for the next four years.
