Edelman to IR

A guy misses time for a concussion, a broken hand and a broken foot and there are internet tough guys implying he's soft? What a freaking joke, not to mention an embarrassment.

Edelman has less than 2 catches per game (1.75). This is what Stallworth can aspire to. His main contribution is as a punt returner. He has been great, but averages 3.5 yards/return more than Welker. That is what we are losing. Could make up that difference merely by instructing McCourty to not run out of the end zone on kickoffs.

Edelman on IR; Stallworth re-signed

December, 4, 2012

By Field Yates | ESPNBoston.com

Patriots fourth-year wide receiver Julian Edelman (foot) has been placed on injured reserve, the team announced on Tuesday.

In addition, the Patriots announced that veteran offensive lineman Mitch Petrus has been released, and that the team added offensive linemen Tommie Draheim and Colin Miller to the practice squad.

Petrus played in two games for the Patriots as a reserve lineman after being signed on Nov. 13.

Draheim was originally signed by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2012 out of San Diego State. He was released following training camp and later spent time as a member of the Seattle Seahawks practice squad.

Miller, a fellow undrafted free agent, originally entered the league in 2011 with the Pittsburgh Steelers out of Central Michigan. He was most recently a member of the Raiders practice squad.

He is a major loss in the punt return department, but that's it. He still doesn't get open consistently and honestly I wanna say 80% of his catches are bubble screens. If you want bubble screens bad enough you can line woodhead as a receiver and throw him one or hernandez or welker, hell probably even stallworth.

Anyway you want to cut it he can't be depended on to stay on the field. Multiple arm injuries that had to be casted, concussions, and now a foot. There is absolutely no way he can take the punishment welker takes week in week out with sometimes 10 plus catch days. And yes i will hold injuries against him and not hernandez because hernandez is always making plays. I basically view edelman as the equivalent of brad smith with his end arounds and st but still not a real receiver. And when it comes to injuries I view him the same way as I did fred taylor. Yes, he's capable of making plays but it would just be better to replace him than to hope for him to magically become durable.

Games played:

11
13
13
9 (now on IR)

This is a guy who's been a backup and played essentially nothing but special teams for most of those years, not one who's out there playing 3/4 of the snaps. In 4 years, 3 as strictly a backup, he'll have lost more than a full season to injury. I don't see how it's unfair to call him "made of glass", given that reality.

I guess we just disagree. As a core STer and PR man alone Edelman gets exposed to lots of hits. As a PRer he has to plant and make a lot of cuts, which is how he supposedly rolled his ankle week 3 against the Ravens.

We're not talking muscukoskeletal injuries here. We're talking broken bones. He broke his arm against Tennessee week 6 in the 2009 season, but returned week 10 against Indianapolis, and played the rest of the season and into the playoffs without a problem. That doesn't sound soft to me. He broke a foot against Miami - pretty legitimate injury. We don't know how quickly he would have come back, but generally a broken bone week 13 is going to mean IR for just about anyone. The guy took a brutal hit on a pass over the middle against the Jets and reportedly had a concussion, but didn't miss a game - yet he's labelled as soft? I just don't see it.

I was afraid that a potential 4-6 week injury may have been too significant for Belichick to wait and keep a roster spot open, but I thought that he may see the benefit of maybe having him for the playoffs.

Unfortunately in this case, but fortunately in most---Belichick does not care about the word "maybe" too much.

Let's hope they offer him a fair deal to return next season, because I really think this kid has potential if/when used in the right way.

Who said he was soft?

The player (our darkhorse) at least 1 of them I suppose is going to IR :mad::mad:.....can't we get a break ... Pleased with Edelman production...So sad to hear :(

Soft and injury prone are two vastly different things. Nobody's calling Edelman "Charmin".

Thank you! Patrick Chung is fairly injury prone -- not soft. Is Ras-I injury prone or soft?

I would say players like Dustin Keller and Jason Babin are soft. Given the whining around here about Lloyd's lack of YAC/propensity for turtling, I'm a bit surprised he doesn't get the label a bit more often.

Look at baltimore without Suggs, Webb, and Lewis. Jets without Holmes and Revis. Gronk will be back, Mankins should be back soon, Hern is already back. If losing your punt returner is your worse injury then you aren't hurting too bad. I just think people exaggerate a little too much here. Compared to other years pats are doing pretty well. Anyone remember 05? Now THAT was a bad injury year.

2003 and 2004 were also pretty bad.

2003 we lost our starting RG, then our starting RT, our starting OLB, and our starting C (who had been moved to RG).

2004 we lost both our starting corners and had to rely on Troy Brown to be the 3rd CB.

2005 we had how many different RBs? 6? 7?

I think NFL wide players have been losing more games to injuries and it's just natural to mainly notice the effect on the team you root for.

I said it last year that I thought the reduced mandatory off-season stuff was going to be detrimental to players. It seems to me that injuries are as high or higher than they were last year, around the league. And this year they had the benefit of the new "full" off-season. Which they didn't have last year.

Anyone think we'll activate Ebert??

nope...its this guy in line

Yeah that's more than reasonable just saying I think the pats will be fine. As long as they don't have a ton of season ending injuries. As of now isn't it only Dane Fletcher and Edelman?

The Pats put 7 guys on IR following TC.
Will Allen, Josh Barrett, Jeff Demps, Dane Fletcher, Brad Hermann, Spencer Larsen, and Jamey Richard. Kyle Hix went on not long after that. And they've since put Edelman and Dowling.

If he is soft, maybe he should be out there on the field taking Viagra like the other guys?

Has Ebner been tried? A rugby player would seem to be a natural ...

That would be interesting.. Seeing him with that neckroll rumbling at you.. Whenever I think of it, I think of Adam Sandler from "The Waterboy". :D

Any thoughts of putting Vereen/Woodhead at WR?

I feel more comfortable with them out there than Stallworth.

Remember in Spring Training... "Man we are so loaded at WR!!!"

LOL.

Then it was...
Welker
Lloyd
Edelmen
Gaffney
Stallworth
Branch

Now its....

Welker
Lloy...eh...nvm

That's it LOL. We are back to last year.

Pats also MUST dump it off to Ridley more.
