Edelman to IR

Edelman FINALLY starts to answer the talent questions that most posters here had, only to find himself labeled with durability questions. The kid can't catch a break. On the positive side, it could help the Pats re-sign him this off season, because his injury can't help his marketability.

This is a bigger loss for the Pats than simply their #4 WR

How about Danny Woodhead as a punt returner? Has good hands, shifty and hard to square up in the open field, and doesn't have a history of fumbling. Could see him taking a few reps at WR too...

He actually does, but they need him in the backfield.

Does his being a PR prevent him from still being a RB?(didnt think so).

We need to come up with someone to do it and as I didnt realize he had the experience I didnt mention him but IMO I think this would be a good thing to try as he is an explosive player and if we dont want to lose anything from the PR game our best option is Wes and I would really like to avoid that if we can.

To me the options are simple
1) Wes does it and we dont lose a beat. He would be our best PR IMO but I would like to avoid this like most.
2) Stallworth does and we likely lose significant contributions from the PR game.
3) similar scenario as 2 but with Branch instead provided we resign him
4) We find someone on this team who previously has not done it. I recall Bolden working at it in camp and you say Vareen has experience. One of these two might be my preference as they are back ups and I think there is potential for big plays that might be there with Stallworth or Branch.
5) we find a free agent to do it. I find this unlikely as PR is a small role and their are several options above already on the roster.
6) What did I miss?

Edelperson made of Glass?? Donte' Stallworth just cemented himself on our roster...not a bad alternative.

I still don't get why we even signed Shiancoe in the first place.

Not to sit in street clothes and watch as he did in Miami. Unless he can make the line-up Mon and start catching passes, his signing was a mistake. His use of the 1 temp IR slot would also then be a mistake.

Stallworth can hopefully contribute Edelman's bubble screens, reverses, and the occasional downfield reception. Bolden did return punts in preseason and was bad, as noted earlier. BB will stick Welker back there because he trusts him. 83 is also a pretty good PR, lest we forget.

Why does it seem like every year, we lead the league in losing Starter games to injury?

That'll get a thumbs up from Ebert*

* have been literally dying to use that one at some stage.

Him or Belichick will just have to Roeper someone else into doing it... :D

Just follow the timeline and look at the injuries we have had at TE already this year.

We had signed Shank and he was on IR long before Hoomanawanui was brought in. If you go by the assumption we could have not known Hooman would be available than that puts Shank one step closer to the field.

Bottom line is TE is a postion that you usually dont carry big numbers at and given who big a role Gronknandez have in this offense I agree with the idea of stashing a TE for the chance that we needed him which there is still a pretty good chance we will need him.

I really don't think the pats have it that bad by a long shot. All their key players aside from edelman will be back for the playoffs.

The Patriots better be careful with Ebert because like Salas some Team could sign him from our PS.:(

As if his concussion and foot weren't bad enough, rumor is he also caught mange when playing against the Rats.

:snob:

Welker has typically been Jules back up over the last few years but personally I would prefer someone else do it and in training camp Stallworth was getting plenty of work at PR which I found interesting because of his straightline speed I would have thought of him more as KR but I believe through most of camp he was getting what would amount to 3rd string reps at the spot behind Jules and Wes. I also think Bolden was getting some work at PR in TC as well.

Bolden muffed a punt big time in the preseason on Monday night football

I DO hope you are in a lumber yard knocking on everything in sight while posting this.

I actually like this idea. He seems to fit the mold and he is trustworthy and explosive.

Sux! I like the idea of Woody at PR. McCourty makes me cringe anytime he returns the ball. I think WW is too valuable to risk losing another WR. Edelman will be missed. Luckily the Texans are a little beat up too this week

Look at baltimore without Suggs, Webb, and Lewis. Jets without Holmes and Revis. Gronk will be back, Mankins should be back soon, Hern is already back. If losing your punt returner is your worse injury then you aren't hurting too bad. I just think people exaggerate a little too much here. Compared to other years pats are doing pretty well. Anyone remember 05? Now THAT was a bad injury year.

I had forgot about that and was really just recalling had seen him do it.

In his defense he looked a lot better as RB in season than in preseason to though there were no RB catastrophes like the muff in preseason. Basically given he has preformed on the field for us as a RB it is possible they could think he is more ready for PR now. But again as I forgot about that I think we can likely cross him off the list of possibilities.

I think NFL wide players have been losing more games to injuries and it's just natural to mainly notice the effect on the team you root for.
