Brandon Spikes suspended for banned substance for 4 games

Spikes is dumb for being suspended but like others have stated it shouldn't hurt much based on the schedule.

Also, it will be interesting to see Fletcher get an expanded role, I see potential in the kid.

i could see him in an expanded roll for him on the revolution, did you see how hard he kicked that downed punt into end zone?

So I take it Chevis Jackson is taking his spot. Will this mean we don't have to cut anyone, Thomas Clayton just got four more checks.

Chevis Jackson is a cornerback. Pretty safe to say that he WON'T be taking Spikes' spot. My guess is Fletcher on running downs with Guyton on passing downs.

On a side note, from a purely beat reporting standpoint, Ian Rapoport seems to be the best one covering the Pats. He always seems to get more scoops than the other guys.

Yeah that's what I meant.

Do I have to spell it out for you. Roster spot

Why else would I mention Thomas Clayton.

Just heard on WEEI. Not a good thing. Stupid move on his part.

Not Good news but atleast he'll be healthy for the Playoffs.:D:rolleyes:

It is absolutely asinine to demand players get clearance before taking over-the-counter medications.

Huh what? The reason they are banned if they are not performance enhancing themselves (some obviously can be) is that there are several OTC masking agents that let you beat a drug test. It is only asinine if you are cool with people masking PED use.

I guess I was just shell shocked that you actually decided to talk about the Patriots rather then b!tch and moan about something. Sorry.

I'm mad at the stupidity. If it were steroids or hard street drugs, I'd also be more concerned about his viability as a player going forward.

I hope it's codeine cough syrup, an inhaler, Adderall, or something similar because chances are it was a stupid mistake and not an issue to cause more serious concerns after 4 weeks is up.

Okay ... where's Seau ... he still wants a ring.

"I've been contacted by the NFL and informed that I will be suspended four games for the detection of an illegal substance in a drug test," Spikes said in a statement. "The substance was a medication that I should have gotten clarification on before taking. It was not a performance enhancer or an illegal drug. The integrity of the game is very important to me. I understand the league's ruling and apologize to my teammates, the fans and the Patriots organization for this mistake."

Well i guess in some ways this is better than him making another porn video.

I would say 99.9% chance it was a stimulant to help keep the weight off.

Just a hunch as he is always aware of his lack of speed.

That's quite frustrating. He's not a player we can really afford to lose, while he's far from perfect, he's had a big impact on our run defense this year.

He's played roughly 25% of the snaps since the Cleveland game. I'm of the oppinion that him being OFF the field and Guyton being on it is a big part of the improvement of the pass defense.

So does ILB suddenly become a position you think about in one of the first two rounds of the '11 draft? Patriots are pretty cautious about players with character issues and with two embarrassments in one year there have to be some doubts about Spikes's long-term viability here. For all we know, he could play another 12 years without a hitch — and I hope that's the case —but leopards and spots and all that.

Is he still allowed to practice with the team during the suspension?
