Watch, it was freaking sudafed.

That got Peppers suspended for 4 games if I am not mistaken
Thats what i was thinking of, sudafed has Epinepheron in it. Epineph is banned in the olympics for sure.

Kind of OT but really? Even if it's prescribed ?

It is a loophole in the MLB policy. It is illegal unless you have a doctor diagnose you with ADD. When the MLB drug testing was implemented, like 30% of the players in baseball went out and got a diagnosis for ADD.

Yeah greenies (amphetamines which adderall is a type of) are banned by both the NFL and MLB. I bet thats it.

It don't think that would be covered by the PED policy. Taht would be covered by the illegal drug policy and not lead to a suspension.

It must be something he took with a diuretic in it. Those are in all sorts of medications, and trigger a PED fail because they can be used as masking agents.

Don't think so- sudafed is excused if it is prescribed by the team medical personnel, and I don't think the Pats would overlook this detail.

It's on the list.

Especially given he could just ask a trainer before taking something. The Pats trainers are probably very aware of the substances in the policy. Before he takes anything, he should know to clear it with a trainer.

It is absolutely asinine to demand players get clearance before taking over-the-counter medications.

Unfortunately, players unions have been stupid enough to cede this sort of thing to the leagues.

He manned up...apologized to everyone.....but

It still is dumb dumb dumb.....

:bricks:

will we ever find out the substance?

Jeez that sucks, why are they called greenies?

If you look at the list, you will see an asterisk along with the statement that it is excused if prescribed by the team's medical personnel.

Amphetamine is indeed a PED in the league's view.

My best guess is that it's some kind of over the counter stimulant, like sudafed. There is not much else on the PED list that he could credibly say he should have obtained "clarification" about. Diuretic might be right too, but most are prescription.

Duke Robinson of the Panthers has also just been suspended. This confirms my suspicion that this was a result of the random drug test screening that the league does.

He says it was a medication, but there is a reason why all of these things, even legitimate medications are on the list, it is because it can be used as a masking agent when checking for other banned substances.

trouble is that there are alot of legitimate medicines that can potentially mask these others substances, and the league doesn't discriminate or make exceptions, they often request that you check with them to ensure that the reason you are taking the medicine is legitimate, and so they can keep a closer eye on you while you use the drug to ensure there isnt anything fishy going on behind that.

spikes could have been taking like viagra or something cuz his **** is broken and wouldent want to report it to the league for obvious reasons, it is true that he should have checked the list before he started taking the drug, but just because you get suspended doesnt mean you are doing anything illegal, but it probably means you failed to do your job in checking the list.

Cough syrup would not have led to a suspension on the first failure. It had to be something considered a PED.

There are separate programs for illegal drugs and PEDs. He either had his 1st PED failure or his 2nd illegal drug failure.

Actually, there has been players who have been suspended for cough syrup.

Spikes' number of snaps (and %):
49 (79%) @ Browns
16 (21%) @ Steelers
9 (13%) vs. Colts
17 (23%) @ Lions
23 (35%) vs. Jets

So yeah this sucks but I think we'll manage. As was stated, if we get by Chicago the Packers don't run worth a crap, the Bills are the Bills, and hopefully we'll have home field wrapped up by the Dolphins game (Steelers beat Jets, we win the next 3.)

Sudafed is not a prescription drug, unless you count the "are you making crystal meth at home" check the pharmacy doles out. Didn't he say in his statement that it was a prescription, specifically?

I believe the drug you're thinking of is not epinephrine (= adrenaline), but ephedrine, or more accurately, "pseudoephedrine" (hence the name Sudafed).

Sudafed is actually Pseudoephedrine, which is different and less concentrated thatn Ephinepheron, I believe. (Though I'm neither a chemist nor did I stay at Holiday Inn.)

Not that it matters. Either is banned. I think the main difference, though, is that one is over the counter and found in some stuff you might not expect (like cough syrups) and one is prescription.

Too bad. Still a young, tough kid with the world ahead of him. Hopefully he learns a lesson, and comes back strong for the playoffs.
