Sudafed is not a prescription drug, unless you count the "are you making crystal meth at home" check the pharmacy doles out. Didn't he say in his statement that it was a prescription, specifically?

Nothing regarding a prescription, just that it was a medication, so it could be sudafed. That would be annoying.

Not in the one I read. He said it was a medication.

Twitter / Ian R. Rapoport: Spikes' statement: The sub ...

From the sound of it, it was sudafed. May not even been prescription strength or if it was prescription strength it would have been in a cough/lung medicine form. The cold bug and a flu bug is going around these parts wreaking havoc on peoples' breathing and lung function.

From that tweet, it sounds like if he got clearence as has been reported, he would have been ok...

He is back in College. He is just waiting for the BCS Bowl game. He will be alright.

If it was Nyquil then I blame Vince Wilfork for this!

wow.... unbelievable. They can suspend for over the counter decongestant ... THE MAN HAD A STUFFY NOSE!

:( :bricks:

Just tell us already!

i bet its something basic. cough syrup, adderall (not really basic but mostly harmless), viagra (if its on the list), maybe even some kind of opiate based painkiller.

It’s probably a medicine that you need permission to use in the NFL, even with a prescription. This would include some asthma medications, painkillers, and stimulants used for ADHD. It could be a cold or flu med like codeine-containing cough syrup. Sudafed is a possibility but I would imagine there would not be a one-strike-and-out deal with it.

It is never a dull moment being a Patriots fan......

This is a bummer, but the defense will need to step up even more now without him in the line up.

Belichick probably picked up his phone and speed dial'd Seau when he heard the news.

Wrong team.

With BB which cold medicine Spikes is being banned for is a secret that will more tightly guarded then the Nuclear Launch codes.

OTOH, if this was a Jets player Rex Ryan would not only tell us what brand, but the exact dosages, if said player had also drank hot tea with the cold medicine and what brand tea bag. If the tea had honey and lemon or sugar and milk. If the player was feeling better. The details of the Jets hand washing program being used to avoid spreading the germs in the locker room.

If you want details you are rooting for the wrong team.

So yeah this sucks but I think we'll manage. As was stated, if we get by Chicago the Packers don't run worth a crap, the Bills are the Bills, and hopefully we'll have home field wrapped up by the Dolphins game (Steelers beat Jets, we win the next 3.)

I would agree with this. Not good but if it had to happen, the timing is pretty much ideal...

- Bears like to run but aren't very efficient at it. They do reasonably well outside (where Spikes doesn't help as much) but are horrific inside the tackles.
- Packers run the ball about as much as the Colts with marginally better success (would be hard to be worse).
- Not sure the Bills will be able to field an offensive line by the time the Pats visit
- Does anyone think the Pats lose to the Fins (and their 3.8 ypc) at home in January if that game means anything?

With a bye week likely, that gives Spikes 2 weeks of practice to get sharp before the playoff start...much like Roethlisberger had a bye week after his suspension.

With the Jets, Ravens, Chiefs or Jags possibly coming to town for that first playoff game, having a rested and ready Spikes will be a good thing.

Was he smoking weed or what? I think the banned substance in question is pretty important. Definitely not good news. 4 games is the rest of the regular season!

Spikes is dumb for being suspended but like others have stated it shouldn't hurt much based on the schedule.

Also, it will be interesting to see Fletcher get an expanded role, I see potential in the kid.

Live by the Spikes, die by the Spikes

This is bad news for our run defense. I assume we'll get a steady dose of Dane Fletcher on running downs and Gary Guyton on passing downs. If I were to take a guess, my guess would be that Spikes probably got caught with a little THC in his system. Guy looks like a pothead and he went to Florida, so it makes sense. Bad news, but it's nothing that we can't recover from... especially with the teams left on our schedule.
