How many of these will be beaten out? Yes, I'm ignoring Belichick's last minute trade surprise.

Which additional players do you consider critical for any of the last 7 roster spots (which will change a lot in the first three weeks)?

ROSTER (46)

OFFENSE (23)
2 QB Brady, Garappolo
4 RB Blount, Gray, Bolden, Develin
5 WR Edelman, Lafell, Amendola, Wayne, Dobson
3 TE Gronkowski, Chandler, Hooman
8 OL Solder, Wendell, Stork, Jackson, Vollmer, Mason, Cannon, Fleming
1 ST Slater

DEFENSE (20)
5 DE Ninkovich, Jones, Sheard, Flowers, Grissom
3 DT Brown, Siliga, Easley
3 LB Mayo, Collins, Hightower
5 CB Butler, Brown, Fletcher, McClain, Ryan
4 S McCourty, Chung, Harmon, Richards

SPECIALISTS (3)
3 Spec Gostkowski, Allen, Cardona

Blount already wont be and I expect that one of the WR will be banged up and an inactive. I also expect they will have more than 3 LB active

3 - Dobson, Ryan, and I think Cannon's in trouble with the trade for Williams yesterday. Hooman should keep a bag packed too, although he's one of "Joshy's Guys", so he's probably still going to be here.

Who are you keeping over Dobson/Ryan?

One of Harper/Cadet/White could fill that "5th WR" role. With Gronk and Chandler, (and potentially Mundine too, who I like), it's very rare there will ever be more than 4 actual WRs on the field at any time anyway.

I could replace Logan Ryan with a traffic cone, and get similar production.

I truly think Logan Ryan is the worst defensive back on the team, so "replacement" would come from whoever else is on the roster. McClain, Fletcher, McNally, Jastremski, it really doesn't matter.

Logan Ryan gets cut, either the Jets or Buffalo pick him up, keep him on the roster for a couple of weeks before they realize he really can't play, and he returns to New Jersey to be a sideline reporter for Rutgers Football.

Harper over Dobson. Any random hobo at the metro station over Ryan.

Unless Dobson doesn't get back on the field this preseason (or if he does, and sucks), I would be surprised if they gave up on him this quickly.

That said, I do like Chris Harper. Tough call either way.

You are making me chuckle at "bored" and your roster questions.

I'd guess that one of the RB's and one of the Safeties would be most likely to be sat in favor of someone else (a smaller RB, for example) in order to best implement a particular scheme for a particular opponent.

To be fair, this is year 3, and he's spent the first two in the training room. I like the idea of Dobson, and I like what he did in flashes his rookie year - but in a roster crunch like we have, someone's going to have to bite the bullet.

It's not like this guy's going to turn into Randy Moss or something, so I'd be ok with the Patriots cutting their losses with him. Maybe they keep him. Who knows? I'd probably be fine with that too. Either way, I'm not counting on him for much.

I'm not even really that big of a Harper guy, but at this point, at least he's produced a little bit this year.

Maybe Hooman gets cut if they go with 2 TE.

Dax Swanson might be able to slip in over McClain or Fletcher, but I doubt it. Is Roberts on IR? If not, the two vets should be nervous.

It sounds like, at least, he'll be on the DTR version of IR.

Hooman's a tough one. On one hand, he's one of Joshy's Guys from the Rams, and has been here a bit now. On the other, they just traded for Michael Williams who could do his job (Blocking TE with hands of stone) or Devlin could too, really.

That one, I have no read on at all. I mean, if it were me, I'd cut him, because we only need one FB (which is sort of how I see Hooman) - but, of course, it's not up to me.

I voted 0 but it's possible Dropson is replaced with Harper.

I voted zero, but I think that this is possible. Both Fleming and Develin can be the 3rd, blocking, TE if one is need.

I'm not sure if they'll make the 53 man roster, but I really want Chris Harper, Dion Lewis, and Rufus Johnson on practice squad

Edit: Same thing for Jonathan Krause and Jimmay Mundine

I think a better thread would be will there be a Logan Mankins or Lawyer Milloy this year?
