I know we talked a lot about the draft and what we'd do with our picks. I don't remember a recent thread solely on who me snag in FA and maybe it's too early, but I looked up a list and thought I'd see what you guys thought about who's out there.

    Grabbed the list from here:

KFFL - 2009 NFL Free Agents

Not sure how up to date it is, but the two names that jumped out at me were TJ Whosyourmama, RB Brandon Jacobs, SS Kerry Rhodes, and CB Nnamdi Asomugha.

The two of those that could most re-energize this team, IMO, would be TJ and Nnamdi.

TJ: Having him racing up the other side of Moss, or even bunched up together, with Brady back at the controls. Yikes.

Nnamdi: Now I know he's gonna be expensive, but we may have learned something by letting Samuel go. We need at least one shut-down corner. We currently don't have that. We have ok corners, but nothing to scare anyone away from passing deep.

Watching any of the Giants RB's is nuts. I doubt Jacobs would ever come here, but I'd have no qualms about cutting Jordan to make the space.

Anyway, the draft should be good and this years draft, big picture-wise, is shaping up pretty good.

Any thoughts on who you'd like to see come along in FA?

maybe i am blind, but I didnt see whosyourmomma on that list.

    Names that caught my eye:

    Chris Gamble
    Dunta Robinson
    Johnathon Vilma
    Darren Sproles
Cortland Finnegan (who is RFA and likely going to ask for a big paycheque, so probably not too likely to show up here).

I don't see TJ Houshmandzadeh being an option. The Pats made no attempt to sign him a few years ago and I don't see them making the move this go around either. Issues with him include an inflated ego, running his mouth and throwing teammates under the bus.

Kerry Rhodes could be a possibility if the Jets don't extend him or franchise him. Nnamdi Asomougha could be a possibility unless the Raiders franchise him again.

I think that Jabari Greer could be an option as well.

TJ is a good #1 or very good #2. Both those spots are taken on the Patriots. Asomugha will be the best CB FA out there, and he will be overpaid just not on the Patriots. The Giants will not let Jacobs go. He'll either get franchised or receive a NY sized contract.

    My list starts off with...
    Matt Cassel
    Russ Hochstein
    James Sanders
    Heath Evans

At this point I don't think we will be making big splashes in FA in the next few years. There are some current players (Wilfork) that need extending first. Also, there are a lot of starters whose contracts are up after the 2009 season.

TJ? Hm. I think Chad Johnson fits that descriptor, but I never really saw any offensive behaviour from Hoosh.

I saw Kerry Rhodes there too. That wouldn't be too bad. Might get him in a trade with the Jesters...

Franchise and trade Cassel to the Jets for Rhodes, who the Jets franchised? Might work.

If he's an RFA, the issue is not how big a paycheck he's looking for, but rather what tag the T*tans slap on him. If they hit him with the highest tender (1st and 3rd required), he ain't leavin'.

Believe me, it fits Houshmandzadeh as well. I've followed his antics because I liked him when he was a free agent last time and hoped the Pats would sign him and then, when he started running his mouth, I knew he wasn't Pats material. When Johnson was going through his stuff this past off-season Houshmandzadeh threw his jabs in there at Johnson.

BTW - the KFFL site is not updated. Kerry Rhodes signed a 5 year contract extension in April.

    Kerry Rhodes

So we can take him off the list of potential free agents.

Forget all the other guys I want Rhodes, hes what this team needs, we can get by with shotty corners we need a play maker at safety imagine him and meriweather back there ooooooo baby. Plus it would just piss of the jets even more

Housh, Rhodes n Jacobs all signed extensions. The Raiders cut Hall just for the purpose of keeping Nnmandi

Does an extension make a player un-tradeable, though?

No, but it means he is not a free agent in a thread about free agents.

Tradeable players opens the field to the whole league (more or less) and is a totally different scope.

I'm thinking about linemen, to be honest. Vernon Carey is a FA (according to 2009 NFL Free Agents: OL) and is better than Kaczur.

Whiza you have to be the only one who thinks James Sanders should be resigned. He brings nothing to the table as a player.

Except he's a starting quality Safety in the NFL and Belichick believes that. And, while Sanders isn't on the level of Rodney Harrison or Kerry Rhodes, he's not garbage.

Sanders is quality depth and should be brought back.. Particularly with the injuries the Pats have had back there.

He's been the starting safety in New England for multiple seasons. Belichick apparently doesn't agree with you.

Or maybe he hasn't found a better SS? Ever since Sanders has been back there at secondary, big plays have been given up. Sanders isn't horrible, but we can definantly upgrade the position.
