The 12th man has been pathetic this year.

yes, but are you an expert at acoustics?

No, but I know what I see and what I hear. And besides that, I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

With 3 home games in a row and hopefully a couple in the playoffs, it would be cool to see the fans fortunate enough to attend the games to make some DAMN NOISE! Baltimore is 4-8 and their fans went crazy and had an effect on the Patriots' audible, same with Buffalo (at the beginning at least) a few weeks ago. It is pathetic how quiet and unenthusiastic the New England fans are. MAKE SOME NOISE!

I agree with that from what I can tell from watching the games on TV down here in S Florida. When I lived in Mass I was at Foxboro on many a Sunday and I swear, it seems like the fans back then, even when we weren't a good team, were LOUDER!!!!

I would hope that any of you that will be lucky enough to be at the game will try to be as LOUD AND SUPPORTIVE as you possibly can!!!! THE 12TH MAN could very well be the DIFFERENCE this weekend.....and we need the crowd to be going NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!! GO PATSFANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BRING DA' NOISE.....PROVE TO ALL OF THE NFL THAT WE HAVE THE BEST AND MOST SUPPORTIVE FANS IN THE WHOLE LEAGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO PATS!!!

Why? Some people can't afford it, others live to far away (such as myself).

But when the players and the media talk about the crowd and how quiet they are, it is a shame.

You don't have to be there to hear how quiet it is. And I am sure that the season ticket holders that post on here are not the problem. ;)

So don't be offended by it. Many folks who are non-season ticket holders who attend Pats games have come away with similar impressions of Gillette and the crowd as a whole. It is something that shouldn't be dismissed, especially if you are there every week.

The stadium design may reduce the overall noise, but it doesn't cause silence. Again, I will point out how loud the crowd was in week two against the Chargers, that stadium was rocking. The stadium has not changed, so why can't it be that loud every week?

Not to be a jerk, but can anyone answer this question?

To be a smart ass!

For those of us that didn't stay at a Holliday Inn last night.

Does wind carry sound out of the stadium?

No. But I can hear it whistling through your ears, amplified by the vast cavernous space in between.

I like your sense of humor! :D

But, Can you give me an answer for my question?

Didn't think so!

OK smart guy, here is your answer: Yes, wind can affect sound via refraction. And to answer your next question, no -- rain, snow and fog do not absorb sound.

but an open stadium, sound has to defy gravity. If wind can accellerate the sound faster the the force of gravity then our planet earth would be a sound beacon.

Do we have to start a science forum now too?\

ANd on the subject, this has been the hardest game so far this year to get tickets on the Pats TicketExchange. Usually I couold have grabbed a few by now but none are out there. Does this mean the real seatholders are going to show up and make some noise? And is that good or bad, sometimes people who buy those seats are the more passionate because they can't go all the time.

Been trying like hell to shake this cold I've had since the Philly game. Think Sambuca (tradition to do a few shots with the crew before the game) will help loosen up the throat?

I can't comment on Gillette, as I haven't been yet. However, I have been to quite a few Rugby and Soccer games in my time. I think the noise on the TV is seriously deceptive. I have heard comments from friends, who watched the TV version, like "we couldn't hear the United fans" when we were shouting our arses off.

It all depends on where the mikes are facing and what the director wnats for noise levels etc. I've thought the same at Gillette, come home saying to the guys I go with that it was a loud crowd tonight and readt this board and people saying it sounded lame on TV.

Shouting, fine. Yelling, great. Standing? All that accomplishes is annoys people who cannot see because you are standing. Maybe you scream out your backside?

Sadly by your response you have proven the point I made in my original post. Let me repeat: on the road in my experience the fans stand throughout the game. I did not sit down once Monday night in Baltimore. I am only replying to your rude response as a means to let others see that you are part of the 12th man problem if you do attend Patriots home games. If so, why not give your ticket to a real fan? And while you are at it, why not take a few moments to learn how to reply in a civil fashion? Too much to ask I am sure (on both counts).

yes, a bottle of Sambuca (for each fan of course...) could really help our troops to make noise

I absolutely agree with you MG! I have never seen a Patriots team more deserving of our vocal support than the Patriots of 2007. Week after week, these guys have been beaten down by the media and by each teams best shot at the "Evil Empire" and they leave everything on the field every game.

None of our players have deserved any attacks as the result of spygate, yet they have. I truly hope they get a HUGE standing ovation when they are introduced this Sunday. If we are truly loyal Patriots fans, we should let each and every one of these guys know how much we appreciate their efforts this year.

Wouldn't it be awesome to see an ovation so great, so loud and long that it brings tears to their eyes. Can we do that? I don't know.

I was referring to the question in post #44.;)

I guess one of the reasons I have a hard time believing that Gillette is as bad as you say it is is because the stadium was designed with the intention to have many concerts. I mean didn't the Engineers think of these things? There must be something we are not getting here.

Anyways I will be up yelling every play. Also there is no question you can not rely on TV for crowd noise assessment.

You know it is kind of sad that we have to complain about stuff like this. The Pats are the class of the NFL and we have to use a cattle prod to get people to cheer for them at home. I'm willing to bet Lions, 49ers and Texans fans are louder than ours and their teams stink.

If I was going, I'd cheer my be-hind off but I'm not. So, all you members of PatsFans.com make sure your section is the loudest...try to start a competition with the next section over to see who can be the loudest. It might catch on...
