So why do most of us dislike Peyton Manning?

Why does the media act like Archie Manning is royalty ?

Archie Manning had talent, but never won anything.....

His win/loss record was pathetic
35 wins - 101 losses & 3 ties
125 touchdowns & 173 interceptions.

Peyton is treated like a prince, that the media feels they need to protect, because you don't want to get Archie mad.

well...to be fair, a lot of down home country folk just love them vittles cooked up at Archie's Kountry Korner Kitchen down there in Yee Haw Junction ,Mississippi...try Peytie's Grand Wizard Ribs with a side of suckercash...:D

Payton is all about Payton. In his post game interview he said "I got that touchdown". "I". Not "We". How about the guy who caught the ball, the line who protected him, the coaches who drew up the play? No doubt that he was a great QB, but that moment reinforced for me why I've never warmed up to him.

AKA Horseface

It's weird. I don't have a legit answer on why I don't like him. And it's funny because Brady and Peyton are pretty good friends, and Brady looks up to him

Honestly, I didn't really mind Peyton and his ball washing cult until the 2006 AFCCG. In all likelihood, the one-sided officiating screw job in that game cost us another SuperBowl ring and made the Brady-Manning rivalry more interesting than it really should have been.

If the refs didn't take over the 2nd half of that game, Brady would be seeking ring #6 this season and Manning would be seeking his first.

But from a BS marketing standpoint, it's more interesting if Manning had at least one ring so the comparison between the 2 QB's isn't completely absurd.

I fear this upcoming AFCCG because, from a marketing standpoint, gee-whiz wouldn't it be swell if Manning rode off into the sunset with as many rings as Eli . . . plus, the Broncos are going into salary cap hell next years so this may be their last shot . . . I smell officiating BS a mile (high) away for this game.

I don't hate him. I just root for him to lose most of the time.:D

Peyton Manning is the second best QB of his era, and I respect the hell out of him as a football player. Having said that:

  1. He's overrated by the media
  2. He's overhyped by the NFL
  3. He's the biggest loser in NFL playoff history
  4. He chokes about as much as any elite QB who's ever played the game
  5. Off the field, he teabagged a female trainer who was trying to help him with an injury

So he's pretty easy to wish football failure upon.

Never hated the guy. Media ballwashing, Nantz being his personal booty call and just being extremely overrated in every sense of the word is what I dislike. If Brady can be personal friends with the guy and have dinner with each other's wives, there must be something Brady can bond with that fans don't see.

Honestly it's the fake aw shucks I'm such a good honest country guy. Whenever he has done bad stuff everyone just believes him because they bought into the good ole boy act. It's exactly why nobody cares that he probably did HGH

Manning is nowhere close to Bradys skill level.
6 sb appearances and 4 wins.
Manning 1-3.

So you hate a family because the media likes them...How does that make sense? Shouldn't you hate the media then?

I don't actually dislike the guy, he is who he is.
I don't understand in general people who dislike athletes they have never met. Of course when you hear about some of them like Hardy, Rice doing despicable things then it is clearly warrented but its silly imo when fans hate Rodgers, Brady and Manning just because they are good.

I hate how he is treated like royalty in the media, but I don't hate him personally. Indeed, I'm going to like him a lot more after he throws at least 3 INTs next week and fades off into obscurity*...

*shows up on at least a third of all TV commercials.

Do not know if I really dislike him, but know I do not like him..

The recent HGH controversy vs. the Deflategate is an recent example, while all of the NFL mediots completely dismissed this for him some even proclaimed that his word was good enough for them, compare the brouhaha about Brady and equipment issue last year... everyone seemed to "know" he was guilty.

Then there is the continual endless commercials..

Then there is the "co called" Football Royalty QB lineage, complete with "Archie" in some luxury box..

Then there is the quest for statistics that will never be passed, except for the consummate statistic.. Super Bowl wins which often seem to take a back seat, and are not as important as passing Favre..

Peyton* will forever be known as a cheater in my mind..

Hate him for all of the above reasons, but more for the excuses every analyst makes for him. Phil Simms kept pointing out how much his receivers were letting him down with the drops. Except he never mentioned how Peyton's passes were fluttering. Try catching a knuckleball pitcher some time and see how difficult it is to catch that ball. So do you really mean to tell me that no part of those dropped passes were on Peyton because of the ball fluttering? Of course not, that would be heresy.

It is not that I hate Peyton. I think he's an OK person. I believe he should have taken HGH as all injured players should take it. As for the trainer thing, when he was young and stupid he was young and stupid.

I know he is over rated as a player. He gets a free pass from media that is called spinal manningitis. The scourge of Spinal Manningitis
Sorry the article has not been updated for quite some time. The pattern for more recent stuff is the same - the 4 interceptions were not his fault, etc.

Silver Spoon Manning is seen as the "every man" while 6th round Work your ass off for everything you have Brady is seen as the Hollywood Prima-donna... media continuously making excuses for PM... throwing teammates under the bus... TEN MILLION commercials... Giant forehead marks... take your pick.

It's really not him. I watched him many times in Knoxville and even his last game at the Orange bowl ( wow did that Nebraska team look big next to the Vols that year). He always came across as humble, at least to me.
It's how he's treated in the media. I caught myself getting so irritated yesterday watching the Denver game becuase Manning was average yet to listen to (Simms?) and he's back to amazing.
So to the OP, it's not him it's how he's represented in the media.
Get ready, our game is going to be media mayhem and favorable to Manning.

My Peyton hatred probably goes back longer than most. It started when he was at Tennessee, and Charles Woodson was going up against Peyton for the Heisman. As a UM student at the time, I would naturally always root for Peyton to play poorly.

He also cost Michigan the Coaches Poll national title in '97, by laying a complete egg vs Nebraska in the bowl game. The Coaches then jumped Nebraska to #1 over Michigan.

Since he's left UT, my hatred is mainly based on the Brady vs Peyton who's better debate. So I've just been rooting hard vs Peyton whether he's been in Denver or Indy.
