Mike Reiss Ending Mailbag

Reiss took the money. I don't blame him for that. However, he's been pretty much useless ever since. It's not a matter of Volin-like stupidity. It's a matter of decline in quality without any offsetting improvement in information or speed. He's now way down on my list of Patriots reporters worth reading.

Edit:

If you're going to disagree with a post, have the courtesy of posting that disagreement instead of just clicking the damned icon, especially when there are points in a post which can lead to conflicting reasons for such disagreement. I have no idea what people are disagreeing about here.

Are you blaming him for taking the money?
Are you saying that Reiss is now demonstrating Volin-like stupidity?
Are you saying that the quality of Reiss' site hasn't gone down?
Are you saying that Reiss is now breaking lots of news?
Are you saying that Reiss is getting info out faster?
Are you saying that Reiss is not way down on my list of reporters worth reading?

Edit: Now, other than trolling, how the hell can anyone disagree with this post?

Well that makes zero sense...

I think that was a hidden way of saying working at ESPN didn't suck as much 10 years ago.

I'm sure ESPN didn't tell him to stop putting mailbag content onto the blog. However, he probably has new responsibilities related to reporting in a video format that is more profitable to B$PN and just doesn't have the time to devote to this aspect of reporting. There were recently a bunch of layoffs there, so we can expect that they are trying to squeeze more $$ out of the talent they still have.

I've always enjoyed his articles. Granted I'm not as knowledgeable as most in regards to schemes, personnel moves etc... but I found his articles informative and interesting.

Anyways I will miss his mailbag.

And, btw, I wasn't trolling. My son called me to pick him up from the store where he was filming an English class project and you were a distant second on that priority list at that moment.

Ok, so you're just trolling again, given that I broke down that point further in the post. That's one person.

I note the following in his farewell piece:

Things look a lot different today than they did in 2005, and that’s primarily why you won’t be seeing the mailbag each Tuesday anymore. My hope is that we can find new ways to connect and have the same type of interaction about the Patriots.
I think that means he is actively looking for a new position.

The pros and cons of this discussion aside, big agreement on this point. I think you can hit agree/like pretty liberally, because you're affirming the poster's point, and of course it's a pleasant thing. But if you hit dislike/disagree (which in general I don't think should be used much at all) then follow up with that. Seems so pointlessly petty otherwise.

I'm counting on the folks on this messageboard to find his landing spot, if there is a new one. As long as it's Patriots football or football at all, I'm happy to follow Reiss where he goes.

Somebody reputable please hire him!

He was always a reporter first and an analyst second. He's also still good at drawing inferences about how the coaching staff feels about various players.

None of this is deeply insightful analysis, but that was never his thing.

Yeah, to me what you're getting from Reiss now is pretty much what you always got from him. Just more dross around it.

like whom? most media is not reputable anymore....
Hah fair point. Semi reputable then. NBC would be a big step up as annoying as they can be.

Good point. And his wording seems optimistic.

Reiss used to break a lot of news ... not so much anymore.

So those responsible for informing the news breakers are using others because Reiss is ESPN?

That's my guess...
