LaFell eligible to come off PUP now (EDIT: BB says he is likely to start practicing this week)

That's his responsibility. I have supported Dobson since they drafted him but he's had more than enough time to prove himself and hasn't done so. He's not aa fighter, period, and I have lost faith in him.

Concur. My only remaining hope is he's been banged up a bit last 2 weeks, unreported.

Yep one of the biggest draft busts in the past 5 years...disappointing. I love lafell though. Pm

Wouldn't call him a bust. Just can't crack the lineup and get regular PT here in NE. Easily a 3rd - 5th (maybe even a poor man's 2nd) WR elsewhere on a weaker squad.

Why are people acting like LaFell is back.. Until it's announced officially, he's not.. I just wish it would happen..

True it isn't official, however, can't blame people for accepting/assuming what is all but inevitable. As mentioned the Herald noted it was odd for a PUP player to travel to two straight road games as well as Lafell himself tweeted next Sunday can't get here soon enough.
At this point it isn't even writing on the wall, it is more like embossed on a grand invitation. In the next day or two the formality will be announced...

How do you know that Allen would have succeeded in this system?

Because he's a stud. Not a retread. Studs usually find a way to stick in any system they're asked to stick in. Moss certainly did it. I'm sure the Pats could have found room for him. Further, we now know that Dobson hasn't, to date, succeeded in this system. Nor has he succeeded in this league. And, given the events of the last couple of weeks with regard to Dobson's availability on game day, it looks like the "injury" excuses have dried up. Finally, I pose the same question to you in reverse: How do you know that Allen wouldn't have succeeded in this system? Given the discussion and what we know now, I would take the guy that has actually done something of significance in the NFL and not the guy that can't see the field and got beaten out by a guy that had been with the team for a week.

What proof do you have that he could have handled the coaching of the Patriots staff?

Is there any evidence that Allen is trouble? Or a headcase? Or has a me-first attitude? Why wouldn't he be able to handle the coaching? Cite examples.

What proof do you have that he could have handled the play-book? Football smart? What proof do you have of that? What proof do you have that he just doesn't run the routes that are called and that Rivers finds him?

I watched his route running in the combine and I paid attention to it in games when I can actually see him run anything but a 9-route. They're sharp. He takes great angles and rarely if ever rounds off his routes like Dobson has been known to do. I know what snadlot football looks like. I've watched the Steelers play it for years. What Rivers and Allen do in San Diego and what McCoy coaches is not sandlot football. Nice try.

The answer is none. It is pure speculation.

Which is precisely what you're doing as well. Discussions of this nature are pretty much always pure speculation. So, if we're speculating, who would you rather take a shot at:

1. The guy that hasn't shown much in the league as a whole and still hasn't earned Brady's trust in the system.

-OR-

2. The guy that has been successful in the NFL and has proven himself to be a #1 wideout.

Thought so.

People seem to forget that Patriot receivers are expected to make the same reads at the line as Brady and expected to make the same decisions as Brady. Yet no one can offer proof that Allen could do this.. Why people feel the need to think their speculation somehow equals proof is beyond me..

I'm well aware of how complicated the Ehrhardt-Perkins can be. I've also seen free agent veterans excel in it. It doesn't seem unreasonable to think that Allen could have possibly been better in this offense than Dobson. Dobson has been a failure, to date, and lost snaps to Martin almost immediately in spite of the fact that he spent two more years in the system than Martin did. Why you're trying to defend a guy that, to date, has been nothing other than a disappointment is beyond me.

When do they have to announce that Lafell has been activated?

Anxiously waiting. Would be amazing to have LaFell, Cannon, Sheard, and Hightower for this matchup because it is a big one. Even 3 of 4 would be great.

IMO today would make the most sense as you want whomever is going to play Sunday practicing Tuesday and whomever won't gone.

If Dobson isn't gone by 4pm today then I'm Jason Whitlock.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. A trade for a CB would be nice....

That's the one thing that stumps me about Allen. I wonder if Belichick and the Pats scouts had a hint of that type of attitude during the pre-draft process.

I doubt it not with their poor history at the position ...all those years they have missed at that position other Teams have hit! That said Keshawn Martin ALREADY > Dropson.

Once he starts practice with team they have up to 21 day without having to put him on 53 man roster. So don't need to activate him till 4pm Saturday to play Sunday.

Yup, though they do have to announce his practice clock has started, I believe. If not, the media will see him in a uni and we'll know immediately anyway.

So does Dobson get released or traded?

I think Dobson absolutely has trade value and I think the team is actively trying to move him. There are a number of teams that can make the playoffs but have pathetic outside the hashes receivers. Dobson may not be great but he certainly is not pathetic.

If I am another NFL team a tall, healthy WR who has been productive at this level and received the best coaching possible and played for with most demanding HC and QB in the league for 3 years, I want him.

Well we won't know today because Patriots aren't practicing

Good catch. I meant Wednesday. Today is game plan day.

We need that production on the outside. Getting lafell back for the jests would be nice. We might have to draft at wr once again.

The Pathetic part is debtable with all the work he put in this Offseason I didn't think Dropson would look/be so unpolished.
