Lewis v White

They both looked good to me, although I feel Lewis stole the show last night. He looked like Faulk 2.0 out there. If memory serves, I think Lewis did it against a lot of the presumed 1's for the Saints, so kudos to him. White seemed to do most of his damage later. I'm definitely not reading too much into that, as he got more reps early against GB. Trying them out at different times against different defenses to see how they react is what this time of year is all about.

I will say this, I was far more impressed with Lewis because he just seems more explosive and powerful even. Both were illustrated on his shotgun TD run where he got to the second level in a blink and then carried a caravan of defenders and teammates to the end zone. We're still trying to figure out if White can get past the first tackler on most plays. Lewis' one-handed grab was also impressive and very Faulk-esque. I'm not saying he has locked himself in or anything like that. We still have more to hear from Cadet when he can get himself going again. It's still up in the air, but I think that all are capable and would not be surprised to see them all get significant touches in the regular season. There were a handful of plays last night where Lewis and White were on the field together, as was the case on the aforementioned shotgun TD run.

Blount, Gray, Bolden, Lewis, White, Cadet, Devlin...lot of RBs...

The Faulk comparison is a good one in size and skill set. Lewis did a good job with pass blocking, running and catching.

I agree with the OP...this is Lewis vs White...

RB (5) L.Blount, J.Gray, B.Bolden, J.Develin, D.Lewis/J.White

One or two will be gone by Game 2.

For most of us, Blount, Gray, Bolden and Develin are locks.

White has been progressing as expected. I would think that he'll be on the 53.

Remember also that Kevin Faulk was not the Faulk we all loved his first seasons.

True, but also don't forget BB didn't become Pat's coach until Faulk's 3rd season. He was sorely misused after being drafted in 1999. Faulk was an outstanding college running back, had some great college games and seasons. Turned into an excellent 3rd down back, but who knows what would've happened if he was used more as a runner. Very unselfish and clutch player.

White/ Lewis would be. Tough cut, White has shown good progress, Lewis has looked very good.

I think White's shown enough that he's definitely on the team. Lewis is probably competing with Cadet for a roster spot, IMO.

I think that five is enough.

Blount, Gray
White, Bolden
Develin

I personally think Lewis showed more last night.

I didn't get a chance to see White pickup any blocks in pass pro where Lewis has 2 I could recall. Lewis offers a Danny Woodhead type wiggle in the running game and passing game.

White looks like he may be scarier as a passing option but have yet to see him offer much of that same wiggle in the running game, although his 3 yard run for a TD last night looked very good. Broke an ankle or two on it.

Both of these guys look faster and like better athletes than Vereen ever did on the field, if one or both can develop his pass pro and route running ability we will have potentially upgraded that position.

I think Blount, Gray, Lewis, White, Bolden, Devlin all make it. At the expense of who, I don't know. 6 is a hefty number of RB's, IMO.

Oddly enough, the most surefire lock, Blount, worried me the most last night. He looked SLOW. He showed his old self once or twice, but he looked VERY slow, the other backs all looked better in their time.

Yeah, they were trying to use him as a workhorse back . . . a Curtis Martin type. He was never going to be that in the NFL.

Faulk was actually the lead RB one year. Much better as a 3rd down back. Very light on his feet and quick, but had zero power.

EDIT to be fair, he also caught 50+ balls in 2000. They sinoly didn't have a lead back. Must have been happy to pickup Antowain.

It was his second season and, again to be fair, the lead RB would have been Robert Edwards if not for that freak injury.

White reminds me of Vereen catching, but tripping on the LOS seems to a problem so far. But then again Blount looked like a bag of rocks.
Lewis looked good running and catching this game.
Can't wait for Cadet to get out there and get in the mix!

I got be honest, if they cut Blount it would not hurt my feelings. I think that Gray is at least as good as Blount. I have been a fan of Lewis for years. I wanted the Pats to draft him over Vereen.

Honestly I expect they will carry both guys, Blount, Gray, White Lewis and Bolden. It is very probable though that only one of White & Lewis will be active each week after week 1.
