RUMOR: Revis "to hit the market?"

How will Revis ever know how much another team is willing to pay unless he hits free agency.

It's not like teams just hold press conferences and announce it to the world.

Oh Wait!!!!!

I know the point you're trying to make, and it's valid as far as it goes.

However, if Revis's agent isn't working the phones to other teams trying to determine what other teams are willing to pay Revis, then Revis should fire his agent for gross incompetence.

(And maybe I'm just too cynical, but I cannot believe for a second that any team -- including the Patriots -- would say in a situation like this to the agent of a player they're interested in "Appreciate your call, but we can't talk. Bye!")

Belichick can't let these guys go, especially Revis. We won nothing in 10 years without Revis. Then we pick up Revis and win in the first year? This guy has GOT to get locked up..

This is a valid point, we all know the rules about tampering but I'm pretty sure every agent from top players and GM's have connections and work things under the table.

I expect McCourty agent to have solid numbers as of now.

Revis is signed for next year. He can't discuss his contract with other teams like pending free agents do. Pats do hold some power here too. We get 1m under the cap by cutting VW. I'd do that. Work a deal for McCourty. Go back to Revis for something long-term. If Revis balks, just make a different cut in order to keep McCourty.

This is really a non topic because testing the market isn't even in Revis' control. The patriots can take the option on him...and Revis would be laughing if we did.

Revis wants to test the market Schefetr says? If we pick up his option it doesn't matter what he wants to do.

We are in full control here and tbh, I wouldn't be against picking that option up and re-working at a later date if we have to.

BB doesn't like to keep players who "balk" at signing a fair deal. Cut him pronto. What would be funny is if they paid the 12M and THEN traded him for a #1 pick.

The pats should make a respectable offer to revis. I will be dissapointed if they dont.

Revis has a no franchise or trade cause I believe.

No. His no franchise clause is the size of the second year in his contract. Nobody would franchise a 20m dollar player to pay 120% of that.

Well, after reading the comments in the thread, I guess it comes down to a few basic questions that we just can't answer at this point.

1) What's the max that Revis is worth to the Pats? I'd be almost 100% certain that the Krafts and BB have already put a number on that, with some variations around how the cash is paid and how the value of the contract hits the cap.

2) What's the max that another team would be willing to pay Revis?

3) What value, if any, does Revis put on staying with Patriots because he knows that he can be part of a winning enterprise and have a shot at another ring vs. the situation at another team?

4) is #3 enough to make up for the difference between #1 and #2?

I would be shocked if we picked up his $20 million option or if Revis resigns without testing the market.

I wouldnt. Which contenders can revis go to if he test free agency?

I was going to delete this thread. But maybe I'm reading this wrong. Is this from a semi-reliable reporter????? It looks like a tweet from someone using a screen name.

Most of twitter is like writings on the bathroom stalls in the boys room.

Edit: I just noticed that this is not twitter. It's from a message board at Boston.com, which is more like writing on the bathroom stalls at a truck stop. so I added "rumor" in big capital letters.

I am not buying this he got his ring so now he will go make his money with a lousy team. I think revis signs a deal with the pats imo.

The message board quoted Adam Schefter when he was on with Cowherd today and I listened to that interview. Schefter was only speculating that Revis would hit the market because he doesn't think the Pats will carry over $20 mill. Nothing official.
