Just when you thought the Jets' couldn't get more entertaining!

Agree re the comparison with Kotite, but the local connection could be more important in the decision process than you are allowing.

The Jets have lost a lot of credibility in NYC (where I happen to live). It doesn't help that they play their games in a difficult to access and relatively unattractive part of New Jersey. So, trying to re-affirm the team's connection to the Five Boroughs is an angle that could come into play in the hiring decision, as specious as we both probably agree it might be.

I'm not understanding how where the man was born has anything to do with the quality of the hire.
Unless you are suggesting they are limiting their search to NYC natives, and would rather hire a bad coach from NYC than a good one from somewhere else, which is silly, and has no basis.

Where do you live in NY? My daughter is going to school at Pace U in Manhattan.

No, I'm suggesting that Woody Johnson is dumb enough to think that it would be a good idea to hire a "local guy" as Coach. He's already established, by hiring Mangini and Ryan, that his judgement in coaching hirings is "impaired."

Pace is a good school, but not in my neighborhood. I live in the fifties in midtown-east. Peter King has apparently moved into the neighborhood, as I've seen him walking his dog in the early AM. **** Stockton and Leslie Visser used to live on our floor and we became "waiting for the elevator" friends over our common connection with Boston.

The poster that did that is probably on his smart phone. When you're scrolling, that can sometimes happen by accident. I evened things out with a swift and decisve "agree".

Happens to me all the time. On a smartphone those icons are pretty small and close together.

I guess being the CEO of Johnson&Johnson he has plenty of access to products that cover up his stink. Is that where your going? If so, that's actually pretty funny! Touche!:D
CEO of J&J? Are you kidding? The company's management doesn't let him within a million miles of the C-Suite of the company that his family built. He went to work there very early in his "career," but they quickly figured out that this was an apple that had fallen far from the tree. So, he left the building and spent his grandfather's money on the Jets.

I think its silly to conclude anyone would have one criteria in making an important hire. Woody may not be a rocket scientist, but I'm sure he doesn't put forks in the microwave either.
Mangini wasn't a bad hire, and while I think Rex sucks, other teams were courting him them and seem to be now, so Woody isn't a lone wolf there either. Plus I think the GM truly made those hires.

She loves Pace and loves the city.

You might be right, but I tend to believe "where there's smoke, there's fire." The one common element to a lot of bad decisions does seem to be one Robert Wood Johnson, IV.

Glad your daughter likes the city of my exile. Believe me, it's a far better, safer and more pleasant place to live than when I moved here in 1990...but I'd still take Boston over it any day of the week.

Happy New Year!

In my opinion, the Jets job isn't going to be the most "desired" coaching position available.

1) You have to deal with BB/Brady
2) Woody Johnson's track record isn't going to help
3) Media creates lots of opportunity for excessive drama (and this affects players)
4) Great talent for both lines (which is a good place to build from), but the rest are atrocious.
5) History is against you (though maybe they can get the Patron saint of lost causes to sign on)
I would think it was near the bottom of the list. I suppose you might rank Buffalo lower, because Buffalo, but they at least have a real good D and some significant pieces on offense.

Not until you bring back Creepy Pencil Guy!!

IDK that woman is pretty mesmerizing. Like someone told her to open her eyes a bit more on camera and she took it WAY overboard. No way that bug-eyed stare is natural. Just makes me laugh every damn time

This is somewhat old news from the "Woody Johnson Tampering" Thread but the pros and cons of Marrone are worth considering in its own thread

While I give the Bills defense credit for making it to 9-7 without a decent QB, and I'll give Schwartz his share of credit I think far too many put the X and O aspect ahead of the leadership qualities and ability to command respect of players and assistant coaches to run through walls for you

I don't know if Marrone has that quality (which is really what I think sets BB apart) but Charley Casserly LOVES him so he can't be all bad ;)

At this point I'd LOVE to see this happen if only to see the Jets facing ANOTHER tampering allegation on the heels of Revis (though I'm not kidding myself - Goodell won't hold the Jets to the same standard of other teams)

Still, according to this New York Daily News story Casserly has done a good job setting the Jets up to lose a draft pick if Marrone gets the job

ESPN reported the divorce between the Bills and Marrone at 6:08 p.m.

Nine minutes after the initial report — and three minutes after the Bills announced the breakup with Marrone on their verified Twitter page at 6:14 p.m. — ESPN reported that the Jets became the “favorites” to land Marrone.

The Jets obviously hadn’t reached out to Marrone or his agent, Jimmy Sexton, in the first 180 seconds of the official release.

You gotta appreciate the balls on that Woody Johnson to so blatantly thumb his nose at tampering allegations as to not even wait 5 minutes until after Marrone was let go to have the media report that there was "strong mutual interest"

This might be too much for the PR conscious Goodell to ignore

Woody is "he can't get out of his own way" personified

Hey he's getting away with tampering with us and Revis why not double dip and tamper with The Bills and Marrone

Marrone may be good, may be bad. We don't know. bills fans were on him because he elected to punt on 4th and short on the other teams 45 late in the game when they were behind. Not once. not twice, but three times in different games. Now, I might have gone for it, BUT with an inept offense and a really good defense, I can't say absolutely that these were bad decisions.

I can say however that he once lost track of his defense. He stayed in a dime while Schwartz was exhorting him to get his pass rushing DEs back in, and afterward he admitted that it eluded him at the time that Jerry Hughes sat out the 4th qtr.

The thing that bugs me is that he goes around calling himself "Saint Doug" because he performed miracles with the Bills.

This is absolutely amazing. Woody Johnson is repeating the exact same problem that got him Idzik as a GM. How can anyone be this dim? He's either an idiot, insane, or most likely both.

Actually not to pick on the lady, she may have a medical condition. Often, people with hyperthyroidism exhibit "bug eyes" like that....

Uhhhhh, color me stupid, but what the heck is the HC doing managing specific play/manning calls during the game? For (I thought) 31 other teams the OC/DC call it and the HC intervenes by exception. Are you sure about this?

I completely understand this, and feel neither sympathy nor umbrage.
