Robert Kraft defends Roger Goodell: "The way he has handled this situation is excellent"

I can't say I understand this mentality that if someone screws up once, they need to be fired.
Once? ONCE?! Please don't tell me you're referring to Roger "Spygate" "18 Games" "I Love London" "Ray Lewis/Ray Rice Are Good Boys" "Dogkiller Is Rehabbed" "Kickoff Returns Suck" "Jets Are Best" "Sean Payton Is Bad" "Marijuana = Year's Suspension" "Playoffs Into March" "Domestic Abuse What's That?" "Pink Shoes/Towels/Sweatbands = We Care About Women" "Screw Diehard Fans/Fantasy Football Rules" "$$$ Knows Best" "Defense Must Be Eliminated" "I Am A Condescending Pontificating Ginger" Goodell.

Well my mother always said you will be judged by those you associate with.

Following your logic, chest bumping OJ would be fine right? Kraft is arm and arm with the man. This isn't just showing common courtesy by shaking hands when being introduced to someone you don't like.

The big difference is that Pete Rozelle stated publicly on many occasions that that was his biggest mistake, and that he deeply regretted his lapse of judgment.

Roger Goodell could significantly reduce the heat by following Steve Bisciotti's example and accepting responsibility for screwing up:
Uh, Roger Goodell already admitted last week that they screwed this whole thing up. He admitted they screwed up, he apologized, and he implemented strict new guidelines for dealing with similar situations going forward. What more do people want??

BTW, Pete Rozelle didn't admit this was "his biggest mistake" the day after the games were played or that next week. He only "took responsibility" many, many years later. He is lucky we didn't have twitter and ESPN back then

Your above criticisms are too ridiculous to address point by point, but you need to realize that his job is to grow revenue for the league. You may not like London games or an 18-game season or new rules, but it is idiotic to call those things "screw ups".

Mr "as the PR wind blows" later suspended RR "indefinitely" which was not in the "strict new guidelines" for a 1st offense.

No, he admitted it in a letter to the owners, and that was before the Rice video surfaced and the separate issue of investigative competence/culpability arose. He needs to openly and publicly address his entire handling of the incident, not with a spoon fed interview on his partner station in which he side-steps the issues.

Which is why I said the league would never get away with anything more than 6 games - and even that probably wouldn't hold up to an appeal - but it was wise to finally do what they should have done all along: throw the book at Rice and let the NFLPA play the role of defending the lowlife.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.

He made public statements admitting that they all screwed up. You're entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts.

BTW, every network is a partner station with the NFL, so I guess you think Goodell should have gone to cable. But if he had gone to cable, you'd be criticizing him for going to cable and not nationally broadcast network TV.

It does not speak well of Mr $40 million/yr executive that in less than one week he screwed up his second take on punishment, thereby opening himself & the league (owners' money) up to a tens of millions of dollars earnings lawsuit because of his continuously revised punishment standards targeting one individual. He's got it wrong twice so far and I have confidence he'll blow it at least once more.

How weird do you have to be to become a Goodell fanboy? Just curious.

How did he screw up the second take? Rice is suspended indefinitely, not permanently. I think it's hilarious how, for some people, Goodell can do nothing right. The People who criticized him for being too lenient before are literally the same people now criticizing him for being too harsh.

Furthermore, you have no clue whatsoever what you are talking about saying the league is open to being sued for "tens of millions of dollars" in earnings. Even if we ignore the fact that Ray Rice was cut, he was scheduled to make something like $4 million this year. Please explain to us all how suspending a guy making $4 millions opens the league up to a lost wages lawsuit for "tens of millions."

They're criticizing him for being a lying sack of s**t.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no forum rule against having unpopular opinions.

I don't like Goodell anywhere near as much as people like you think, I just recognize that overall he has done a fine job as commissioner and has been a driving force in making the NFL the behemoth it has become. He is certainly better than his predecessor, who was a complete disaster.

I also recognize that Goodell is an employee of the league and the owners are the ones giving marching orders, so I prefer placing blame where it belongs.

Unfortunately, so many of the alleged "lies" are simply things that reporters claimed "unnamed sources" told them.

OK, OK. Hyperbole (and Ray Rice) aside, let's pick and choose a few legitimate transgressions from that list, starting with "Cameragate" -- the ultimate Goodell screw-up. To lesser degrees his gross mishandling of other events involving players and coaches (Vick, Payton) and a slew of initiatives that have continually chipped away at the game's very fabric PROVE Goodell is ANYTHING but a steward of the game we love. He lies. The fact he does it in a soft, matter-of-fact tone doesn't make it acceptable. ESPECIALLY as a Patriots fan, you should be outraged at this disingenuous stuffed shirt instead of defending him.

I'm going to bow out but

If he admitted to screwing up (agree) and corrected it with the 6 games, then why the need for the indefinite suspension?

1) Incompetence in not pursuing the issue.
2) Willful ignorance
3) indifference

Screwing up and resolving it the first time would have been okay until it was discovered that there was more evidence that the NFL did not have or did not admit to and they misread the public outrage at this.

Either way, if he isn't culpable, he's incompetent in this situation or he would not have had to revise his punishment a second time. Does he really need to gauge the public opinion to find his moral compass? Does he really need someone like TMZ to get to the bottom of the issue?

Rozelle had a decision based on his misread of public opinion. If Goodell's misread is based on public opinion, then his moral compass is messed up and not worthy of someone in his position. Rozelle made an understandable mistake. Goodell's real mistake was admitting to a mistake and not really getting to the bottom of things. He instead said in effect that "we'll do better next time". If that's all that mattered, why the second revision??????

You asked what I (anyone) wants from him and I think it's pretty clear. Full disclosure.

He hasn't given full disclosure. Who conducted the investigation? Why, didn't anyone recommend a means to get the evidence when they have ex-FBI staff on payroll? Why the second punishment was needed when either way, he knocked her out? Did they consult any domestic violence advocates? Where there any other recommendations?

Going on TV and saying "we didn't know" is not full disclosure. Transparency requires you to actually care enough to expose your process and the criticism that may come from it.

Unfortunately, so many of the alleged "lies" are simply things that reporters claimed "unnamed sources" told them.

And using their awesome telepathic powers, they were able to precisely describe the contents of the tape, even though NO ONE HAD SEEN IT.

Yeah, pull the other one Mr. Goodell.

One more question to add to the list. Why in god's name did they interview Janay Palmer about the incident with Rice sitting right next to her. Talk about domestic abuse 101.
