Welker:Toward the end in NE, BB got on him in a way he never had before

That guy is a dead ringer for Phil Lynott.

John Fox is a grandstanding, front-running back-slapping glad-hander. The epitome of a disingenuous used-car salesman.

not derailing. just thinking thin lizzy maybe.

back to welker. it's a simple as this for me. loved him as a pat. dislike him as a donkey. see. easy .

Like I been saying all off season. Thanks Wes for being a great Patriot for 6 seasons. You were great....... But I was ready to move on. And I'm really excited for the Danny Amendola Era to begin.

I think BB just didnt want him back and he wanted to make Wes want to leave on his own. BB didnt like the drops, and the fact that Wes opens his mouth way to often makes you wonder what other things he's opened his mouth on that we don't know about.

People talk about how Wes was the straw that stirs the drink which is the Patriots offence, which is actually a finesse offence that scores a lot of points during the season but falls apart when facing a physical defense in the playoffs. We needed bigger and stronger receivers who could beat press coverage and win downfield, and it seems that's exactly what BB went after this offseason.

The "Welker didn't do enough crowd" aren't nearly as critical of Assante Samuel for missing an easy SB pick and Rodney for not knocking the ball off Tyree's helmet. Using the fanbot Welker logic those players didn't step up either...yet it's rarely mentioned.

Don't even get me started on that piece of crap.

What's so utterly ridiculous about it ?

Well, the fact that Manning won a Super Bowl by targeting his slot receivers and tight ends, for one.

Asante's easy pick that went off his fingertips at the peak of his jump? How is that "easy"??

Agreed, it wasn't that "easy". If anyone here has the stomach for it, watch this replay of the play:

Super Bowl XLII Asante Samuel dropped interception. Buckner? - YouTube

He leaped and the ball didn't really hit of his "hands", but off the very tips of his fingertips. COULD he have had it? Sure, I guess. SHOULD he have had it? Probably not - it would have been a terrific play.

Either way..... :bricks::bricks::bricks:

Spot on. It winds me up how many people say he missed an easy pick...it was far from it.

Those same people tend to make up excuses for Welker's Super Bowl drop by saying 'well it was tough'. Boo hoo...if it hits your palms, you should catch it....end of. That's what I was always taught.

It came off of the top of Assante's finger tips. Hardly a gimme.

Anyone who wants to blame him for the miracle catch need to re-assess their lives.

And that is the nail on the head. Brady would turn my dog into the top WR in the league. Eligibility issues aside of course.

Let's see how he does with Peyton first. No need to tempt fate.

I think these are just breakup pains we're hearing here. Wes will remember his time with Belichick fondly someday.

It was sure nice of BB to keep this JAG on the team for 6 years.

I have been reading through the thread and have to agree with the posters (of which you are one, I think) that think that BB just didn't want Welker back, whether it's because he didn't like the drops, didn't like his attitude or just decided it's time to go in another direction. I thought that at the time when the facts came out about his contract in Denver. We could have matched that or upped it if we really wanted him back, but we didn't do it. I was crushed and shocked because I love Welker and thought the Pats were making a big mistake.

Time will tell.

This is for all the people who jump into attack mode the minute someone says something positive or negative about WW - I wish him well in Denver; I don't think he hates the Pats; he probably should keep his mouth shut about BB, even though what he said isn't that bad or surprising (because it diminishes him not BB); just because I wish he made a certain catch doesn't mean I don't appreciate all he did here.

You don't read that transaction with Welker as BB playing the cold, calculating assessor of player value who will not pay more than a player is worth and gives nothing to a player's history? I still suspect BB's fear was Welker, a small, quick player who weathered a great deal of abuse would lose a step at his age, whether this year or next, at which point he would have a small slot receiver that could not get open with a relatively big price tag.

Welker has been huge for the Pats, and I will never hate on the guy because he went to Denver. He put his body on the line repeatedly, and made tons of clutch 3rd down catches with the Pats over the years. People crying about his decision to leave, who forget all the damage he took for the Pats catching passes in the middle of the field conveniently forget what might have been with all the successes in the past years if he was not there. Look at "alligator arms" Joey Galloway if you believe all receivers can do that with the Pats. I wish him well, and only time will tell if the Pats' decision not to pay him was a good decision or a bad decision.

Welker is also a comedian, so I am not convinced he was not making some of those comments in jest. His reference to a more difficult year may be no more than a statement that BB was on him more because he made more mistakes - not saying he didn't deserve it, but rather that the season did not go as well as he had hoped, and he heard about it.

Exactly. Welker is outgoing and a bit of a comedic wiseass. Don't take to heart everything said. I thank him for his great seasons here and wish him well, except for his obligatory 1st game playoff loss.

Yep. I'll wish him well throughout 15 games of his season (not his team, mind you... just him) and right before that other 16th game as well. After the opening kickoff of said 16th game, I'll hope he absorbs a highlight-reel hit and his team gets totally embarrassed on national television.

I've moved on. As for wishing him well and all that, I don't want him to do really well. Mediocre and downright lousy in the post season would be fine with me. I'll appreciate and like him more after he retires.

When he does retire, he will not be in that top echelon of all time Patriots players for me since he didn't win it all, but he is a notch below.

I'm now tired talking about Welker and am excited to talk about the new crop of Amendola, Dobson, Boyce, etc.

I trade them all in for just one catch in a certain game.

That would be stupid, since the Patriots wouldn't have been in that game without a lot of Welker's other production.

And while I got flamed for this bitterly at the time:

Welker is an all-time great WR in many respects. His catching radius, however, is substandard. Nobody's perfect.

I could give 2 $hits about WW as he no longer plays for the Patriots.
