Welker:Toward the end in NE, BB got on him in a way he never had before

Hopefully, Wes will have a happier and easier time of it in Denver under the accommodating guidance of PR giant John Fox.

:lol2: perfect description of Fox :lol2:

Meh, WW said nothing shocking or disrespectful...no need to take fanbot shots at him simply because he is not a Patriot.

Or maybe Bill realized that if Welker had stayed with the Fins, he very well probably would have been a JAG player and wouldn't have come close to reaching the heights he reached with the Pats ?

Doubtful since Welker was having productive seasons with Harrington throwing him the ball. He was the hardest guy for the Pats to defense when they played the Fins pre-2007.

Remarkable isn't. The shoot the messenger contingent never changes. Pats good, World bad.

Belichick: Toward the end in NE, Welker dropped passes in a way he never had before.

I love Wes and all but this is pretty funny. I don't think Wes really holds any hard feelings against the pats. Maybe he'd rather be in a place where coaches aren't as harsh but I don't think he dislikes Belichick. Just my opinion.

I trade them all in for just one catch in a certain game.

Broncos are a one and done just waiting to happen. Not trying to rag on Wes but, I'm picturing Peyton lobbing one to Wes that he botches and goes right into the hands of a defender to end the season against some overachiever team.

They never would have gotten to those SB's without Welker playing the way he did. He's one of the best players to ever play for this team and yet the douchebags in this forum take shot after shot at him. I am sure it will be the same for Wilfork and Brady because the truth of the matter is that there is a large contingent of Patriot fans who simply have no appreciation for great players and only look at the shiny new object.

Kenbrell Thompkins > Troy Brown............

Who cares if we would have, or would not have got there without Welker? The goal is to win the game and we didn’t and Welker played a part in it. I fly planes for a living; when flight 214 crashed landing at San Francisco earlier this summer nobody at the FAA or within my industry made the statement “that plane never would have even made it to San Francisco if not for the pilot”. We all have jobs to do, we all have persons who are going to hold us accountable, and we all have repercussions if we fail, that is life and unfortunately life and work in particular does adhere to the “what have you done for me lately” mentality.

**Special Note** Please do not perceive my mention of flight 214 as making light of an awful and horrific incident; as a member of the aviation industry I’m personally devastated to see any loss of life, as I know the training, and attention that goes into each and every flight. My utilization of that was simply to outline how even if you do your job great 99% of the time that 1% can still have devastating consequences in any industry.

The "Welker didn't do enough crowd" aren't nearly as critical of Assante Samuel for missing an easy SB pick and Rodney for not knocking the ball off Tyree's helmet. Using the fanbot Welker logic those players didn't step up either...yet it's rarely mentioned.

Lots of JAGs have "productive" seasons. Didn't Welker have more catches for more yards in his first year here than his 2 previous years combined in Miami ?

I agree with that. I didn't think it was all that bad.

Welker was a great player here. I personally think the Pats were ready to move on (at least unless he signed for their price). At his age, he is at risk for hitting the age wall at any time (although it could be a couple of years before he did) and I think this was another case of rather letting a player walk too early than too late. Time will tell if they made the right decision. More often than not, they have been right.

I still have my Welker autographed football on display and I have no intention to get rid of it. Nothing he has said since he left the Pats have made me change my opinion of him.

I am sure he is a little bitter, but he wouldn't be the first player to leave the team he thought he would finish his career on and felt a little bitter that the team didn't try harder to keep him on the roster. I don't hold that against him though.

Welker put up 96 receptions in spite of only starting three games from 2005-2006. JAG WR's don't typically do that. They also don't average over 10 YPC (15 YPC in 2005) with garbage QB's like Harrington throwing them the ball, nor do they contribute on multiple units for their team. Further, the Patriots coaching staff made several comments when Welker first came here in 2007 about how hard the guy was to defend. Lastly, if he was simply a JAG, the Patriots more than likely wouldn't have picked him up then redefined their passing offense around him and Moss, much less kept him for five seasons.

Welker wasn't a JAG. For you to say that sounds pretty ridiculous. I'm sure even his most verbal detractors on here since he left don't agree with you, either.

I think at least Samuel gets his fair share of blame for his non-INT. Harrison gets a bit of a pass just because Tyree's catch was an one in a million type of catch. No way should he have got it. I don't blame Harrison for that one. Merriweather deserves more blame for his non-INT right after Samuel's.

I put Welker's non-catch on par with Samuel's and Meriweather's non-INTs against the Giants, Brady's safety throwing to no one in the end zone, and several other plays.

Probably because he dropped an easy ball that would have clinched the Super Bowl for them.

The best and most correct post in the entire thread.:D

Maybe I'm not stating my view clearly. IF he had remained with the Fins, he would have been a JAG. Or if the Fins had traded him to any number of other teams, he would have been a JAG.

I don't think it's mere coincidence that both his receptions and yards leapt once he came to the Pats. A lot of that has to do with both the Pats offense (Belichick) and the QB who was throwing to him (Brady).

Simple question. Do you think his stats would have been anywhere near the same if Miami had traded him to Cleveland ? Or Arizona ? Or the Raiders ? Or the Titans ? Or the Jets ? Or the Giants? Or the Bears? Or the Lions?

I loved Welker as well :grouphug:

He did drop passes in a way he never had before though. Every action has a reaction, Welker dropped :noidea:, Belichick yelled :yell:, we lost the game :second:, and then Welker left , I just see no reason for Welker to start this whoa is me  nonsense.

Well leaving and downgrading his QB will cost him his slim chance at the HOF and shooting his mouth off the Patriots HOF.

Still enjoyed him as a player.

That's not a very good question, and a very poor way to determine whether or not a player would have been/is Just Another Guy. Most WR's see their stats dip with ineptitude at quarterback. Moss's stats dipped with Oakland, for example. I think out of the four teams mentioned, Arizona would have given Welker his best seasons (other than the Pats) because he would have had Kurt Warner at QB during the 2007, 2008, and 2009 campaigns.

JAG is someone that you never really hear much about. Someone that could be replaced by another JAG. Moss topped 1000 yds in 2005 with Oakland and was injured in 2006.

Larry Fitz has put up stupid numbers in AZ even with Kolb and Skelton throwing to him. Wasn't til last year with AZ playing musical chairs with 3rd string QBs that his numbers really suffered.

As for Welker doing well with Kurt Warner, that's hard to say as short range passes working the middle of the field wasn't Warner's game. He was a down field passer as well as hitting backs flaring out of the backfield.
