I guess that you have no reponse other than the media made him do it and the media doesn't let him punish any one else. I don't take objection to the punishment meted out to the Pats if the same punishment is given to every team for rules violations. That is the fair and unbiased behavior to be expected in the commissioner. If Goodell lacks the cajones to stand up to the media and be fair and unbiased in his punishment, he is unfit for the job. Frankly I do not see any difference from his treatment of the Pats and the rantings of Greg Easterbrook who apparently you feel he has to cater to.
The media didn't MAKE him do it. He chose to do it. His decision was based heavily on the damage done by this incident to the perceived integrity of the game.
I would also say that the media did NOT manufacture the crisis. In this instance they provided a genuine reflection of the views of non-Patriot fans of the NFL.
As far as Goddell standing up to the media, I think that Goddell should DO HIS JOB. That means grow the NFL. It is NOT his job to be fair. It is even less his job to impose his sense of fairness on the media. Goodell's job is to grow the NFL as much as possible. Any lingering perception that NFL games are being rigged is a very serious threat to that goal.
Finally, I will say (with the approval of fans of 31 other teams I am sure) that Greg Easterbrook is an idiot.
