Perfect season banner to hang in Foxboro

If only there was a way playoffs could be the best 2/3 or something.

If that were the case, we lose against the Rams in 01 for sure. but would win in 07. So either way we still end up with 3 Superbowls. :p

Not to mention the fact that playing just ONE football game is as demanding and phyiscally taxing on the body as playing a series in any other sport.

I know, just from a statistical point of view it would be nice.

Ah well, we're grabbing the next SB so no biggie.

I believe the Patriots 2007 season ought be celebrated, not mourned.

It was a really really impressive season.

Only one loss all season.

Multiple records broken.

AFC Champions.

Of the 32 teams, only one team had a more impressive season. The Patriots have a lot to be proud of and a lot to celebrate. The season may not have been perfect but it was a great season.

If you want to know what a failed season, buy the Dolphins 2007 highlight video or check out the Patriots 1990 season.

It wasn't a bad season, IT WAS ALMOST PERFECT!

the best team in the league last year was the giants.
There's a difference between "legitimate champion" and "best team".

The Patriots were obviously the best team. However the Giants were the legitimate Champion.

On the banner, I would forget the AFC Champion stuff. And I would modify the banner to "16-0 Perfect Regular Season".

Yuck. This smacks of the Colt's dumb banners which we have always made fun of. I am proud of the 16-0 season, but without the Superbowl, it doesn't feel like a banner moment.

Yes, It is bush league. Maybe the rings could have a helmet with two hands crossed where the neck would be.

Typically, I read too fast and now see what I referred to was the rings. I'll be curious what the banner says.

I don't know if the banner is the right thing (still better than celebrating an AFC Championship appearance with a 'Finalist' banner) but last year was special and should be remembered with something.

Actually, it's the exact same thing. Unless it is there for motivational purposes and gets taken down after the Super Bowl 43 win, then it's ok with me.

I absolutely agree with you. We have some ungreatful fans in this forum. They didn't win the Super Bowl so EVERYTHING ELSE THAT THEY ACCOMPLISHED IS NOTHING. The Patriots accomplished something very special last year. I remember when we couldn't win more than 2 games much less 18 games. Let them celebrate it. They should be proud of it. They didn't close the deal. If you want to hold that agains them, that's your right as a fan. This fan is proud of her team. They made some history last year. Think about that for a second. I remember when our team was the doormat of the NFL. All we did was LOSE. Now they are making history and breaking records.

The Super Bowl loss was hard to take. It really was. But you know what was harder? That shadow that hung over the team before they even played the game. THANK YOU, YOU PIECE OF **** JOHN TOMASE!! That morning when I heard the news, it felt like bad karma was everywhere. Instead of anticipating the game, I had to listen to constant SPYGATE crap. I had a bad feeling in my stomach all day leading up to the game...and we all saw the outcome.

I'm over that loss now, and I'm looking forward to the new season. For the first time this weekend I looked back at our 2007 season. Guys what our team Accomplished was Awesome. All of the other teams in the league will be fighting to even come close to what the Pats did last year. The Super Bowl loss made me forget how special the 2007 really was. The season deserves to be celebrated. Hopefully, it gives them even more FOCUS AND MOTIVATION for the upcoming season. The haters would like us to forget that our team did some special things last year. They want us to hate on our team for losing the Super Bowl. I won't let them win.

There's been alot to be proud of over the years. Not any of those were commemorated with a banner or rings. Especially not those that ended with one of the biggest heartbreaks of my life.

No one is saying anyone shouldn't be proud of 18-0. But I like my banners to be for championships, not for an awesome run and then falling short. Every time I'll see that banner, which will be every home game soon enough, I'll be reminded of that fall.

I'll be reminded of that fall.

Why is it that having a banner from 2007 and you only remember "the fall" and not the 18 awesome wins?

You don't have to answer the question....but think about what that says about you, not what it says about the Patriots.

I see your point PJ. It's a good one. It's tough. It feels like they are damned if they do or damned if they don't. They are cheesy for recognizing it, and sore losers for not recognizing it.

Read my post and tell me where I wrote that I will only remember the fall. You won't, because it's not there.

And then think about what that says about you and your reading comprehension skills and preconceived notions.

I will think about the amazing season, too, when I see that banner. But that being said, I do not like being reminded of what happened in Arizona, and that banner will be a big reminder for me.

It's like having the most amazing road trip, then crashing into a tree at the very end.

Despite how fantastic the ride was, the crash is what you'll always remember the most.

For some people at least...

When we win the Super Bowl this year it will be taken down and burned at the rolling rally.....it is only a space saver/motivator.

There ya go.

Actually, if they do do this, which I guess they will, I like the other posters' ideas of either a smaller banner somewhere away from the SB banners or having it in the Pats HOF. It is something that should be recognized, the question is just how. And I personally don't like how they're doing it.

The rings just seems weird to me.

Ditto.

Also, I have a feeling that most guys on the team will never actually wear that ring...

The reason that I choose not to remember that crash is because I'll want to strangle John Tomase. I will always have the opinion that his hack report had an affect on the team. I have no proof it, but I know that these players are HUMAN. They fought that stuff for 18 games, put it behind them and in the final game of the season, that scumbag puts out that...Ah, hell, I don't want to think about it anymore. All I Know is that THE BOSTON HERALD and their HACK REPORTERS AND EDITORS RUINED THE SUPER BOWL FOR ME. I'm willing to bet that they ruined the Super Bowl for the team too...and the Giants completed the job.

Go ahead! No judge would convict you. :)

Yeah I would agree on that too. Although I am looking forward to this upcoming season and tonights preseason game, ESPN and the Herald really took a toll on the players, as you mentioned, because they are humans. It was just amazing how it all went down.
