Re: Terrence Wheatley highlight video link

I love this pick. There are only a handful of prospects in this draft who can become quality starting Cbs in the NFL, and Wheatley is one of them. This is a player pats fans will grow to appreciate for his smarts, athleticism, and selflessness. A perfect Patriot pick.

Yep short and unable to cover any WR over 6". Don't we already have a midget CB?

I guarantee he would have lasted into the third round or fourth. A "lets just pick one quick and get it over with before time runs out" pick. A head scratcher for sure unless there were 31 other teams that rated him as a second rounder. Maybe Pioli has got a secret method of stretching him to 6' 1" or so. Is it me or do I see us get beat by more 6' 4" WR's. Maybe his media size was wrong. Maybe he is at least 6' tall. In BB we trust but this was a bad move and not worth a 2 for sure.
Nope I am convinced. Lets just trade out #2 choices from now on. We are poor with those.Think Bethel and Hill (RIP).
Everyone of you out there are thinking the same thing. Bad choice!
Please don't tell me we picked a number two choice to be a nickel back (see Booby Grier and Chris Canty) and to return kicks.

He is a full 1/2" shorter than Asante Samuel...........

And it's easy to "guarantee that he would have been there in the third or fourth" when it is IMPOSSIBLE to be proven wrong unless it leaks, like it did from SF after the Mankins pick (who was similarly decried as a reach).

Chris Canty went in the first round and has no bearing on how Wheatley plays, but somehow I've seen his name about 10 times in the last ten minutes; oddly, they all are in similarly vapid posts.

Re: Patriots Select TERRANCE WHEATLEY with 62nd pick

Where is he ranked 19th at CB? Mayock had him as the 64th best player in the draft, I believe, and Gil Brandt had him going in this range as well.

Mayock had the best record for naming picks today. Seemed to have his stuff down.

"When the pro scouts come by, I just jump on the table for Terrence Wheatley," said Colorado head coach Dan Hawkins. "I think he is a very solid individual, he is a hard worker, he is a smart guy, he is dependable, he is very, very consistent and he is a special talent."

...His second gear is evident by the way he simply races past opponents on kickoff returns...

...Has a keen understanding of the playbook, but will still spend time dissecting plays to discover ways to improve his technique......Hard worker in the training room who also puts in extra hours studying game films...Type of athlete that performs best against top-level competition, as he loves the challenge...Dependable field leader who will spend extra time mentoring the younger players (has a bit of Troy Vincent in him, as he tries to understand the assignments of every position)...Could possibly make a good coaching candidate one day due to his grasp of the playbook...

They are going to convert him into a NT. I hear our defensive line is getting old.

Yes! Bring back Tebucky Jones at CB! At least when the WR runs by him for the 800th time, he will be very tall.

He's 5'9 5/8" 187 lbs, which is good size contrary to what people keep mindlessly repeating to eachother, has excellent ball skills, is super fast and quick, a coach on the field, has top notch character and is a very willing tackler. The "poor tackler" tag was put on him when he was playing with a shredded wrist as a junior. As a senior he was much improved. It's laughable how some fans read a goofy, assembly line ESPN profile and jump to foolish conclusions. This kid is going to start and play well for the Pats, and soon.

They should have just converted Donald Hayes.

He sure was tall.

Coach, your insight on this thread is appreciated in more than one way. Provide insight and shutup the idiots. Many thanks.

makes you think that BB, Pees, and Capers are up to something. will we see more man to man coverage?
Gentleman, Lets face it we were 50/50 today. The good news is we have 6 more shots to get it right. Perhaps they will draft a CB in the third like Molden or Branch. We drafted a KR in round two is kind of........................
Shockey would have cost us a two or why not Tommy Z because we need a safety big time. Sheppard?
There are three that we all would have taken instead.

'nuff said to the idiots here tonight.

Wheatley's "negative" paragraph is shorter than some of the other CBs drafted in that range or still to be (ie. King). ;) Also, the description of his negatives dont seem bad at all. I am sure that 5'9 dropped him down on "expert's" boards just in principle. But I like his speed, toughness and ball skills.

I cannot articulate the importance of the audio found here http://youtube.com/watch?v=eXi-VQaxc6s&feature=related
towards another evaluation of this player as a patriot! He sounds eloquent and intelligent....and he's a corner...and not just a corner, but a "speed corner"!!!!

The NFL is full of guys who were "too short" "too slow" etc. He's listed at 5'9", Ty Law is listed at 5'11". They look about the same height to me, and I think Law was one of the best ever in his prime all considered (coverage, tackling, smarts, rac, etc...)

If you are going to quibble over a guy who is 5"9, or 5'10, then you are going to miss out on a good player.

And, the bottom line is...in BB we trust.

I am a huge fan of Mayock's insights...and he seems to like the kid.

I understand exactly what you were saying, and was completely sincere in what I said. It was geniune, respectful thanks.

So....nowhere is he ranked 19th. Frankly, the quality of the draft guides you just quoted to me is almost embarrassing. At least I now know who buys them...
