Clayton: Moss not close to deal, entertaining other offers

Re: Latest on Moss from Clayton...

I look at it this way. No matter what Randy does, I won't hold it against him. The Pats are foolish to not open their wallets for him but we didn't win three SB's by spending like the Redskins and buying championships. And lets face it, Pioli hasn't drafted well lately. I think it's time to get back to that. We need to rebuild this defense because no matter how many points you put up, defense still wins championships and we all should know this. Randy is not old but he's no spring chicken and this could possibly be his final big payday. Who could blame him for wanting every dime he could get? He just broke Jerry Rice's records. He disappears in the playoffs and do we really need a guy like that? We need a freakin' defense which is why I'm more concerned about our secondary. I hope Rodney can stay healthy because it's looking pretty bleak. We have the seventh pick in the draft and the money we'd save by letting Moss walk might be helpful in the long run. I know I'm speaking blasphemy and to be honest I want Randy back just as much as the rest of you. However, the Pats whether you want to admit it or not have once again shown their arrogance and probably did in fact low ball another player. We don't know much right now and won't until something gets done. The Pats better make a move though if Randy is that important to them because he won't be out there for long.

I would hold it against the front office, to let Donte, Assante, Moss ,Gay, and maybee Gaffney go..

Re: Latest on Moss from Clayton...

At worse I'd say that the latest Clayton info was put out there by Randy's agent to get the Pats to move and close the deal. Randy doesn't want to leave, he will sign at some point this weekend. Everyone will then be able to relax.

Re: Latest on Moss from Clayton...

this means kraft is cheap:rolleyes:

Re: Latest on Moss from Clayton...

if he goes, he goes, it will show his true charcter, the one year good boy will be proven wrong , if he wants to stay with the pats great ,brady has supported him, bb has supported him, kraft has supported him, so if he is going to take the last buck it shows he probably would of been a mal content back to his old form hes only one player, and we havent won a super bowl with him plus he chocked in the playoffs, do i want him hell yes but if he flips the bird to us ill flip ill flip it back and then watch him struggle

You know realistically this IS A BUSINESS FIRST AND FOREMOST.....and Randy is just WORKING the business......I can not blame him........This is his LAST deal....because most likely after 3-4 years...he has less bargaining power....and/or...is out of the league......I wish everyone was like Tom Brady (read prediction below) and wanted to stay with the same team for his entire career....and will take less to get good players signed etc.....But let's get real now......If Randy Moss had torn his ACL this year.....HE KNOWS THAT THE PATS would have cut his a##........He had the year of his life......and SET all kinds of records.....and if the Pats don't want to step up.......he is entitled to the big pay day......I will be REALLY BUMMED if we do NOT re-sign Randy Moss and, since we are not going to re-sign Stallworth........Get ready for a rebuilding year.........Like I have said so many times.....Not taking advantage of this past SB opportunity and, not taking advantage of last years game against the Dolts.....Will come back to bite us......could be MANY years before the Pats sniff the SB again........Oh well.......Go Pats......!

PS....sorry almost forgot my prediction on Brady........IF the Pats decimate or "wipe out" almost all of his offensive weapons ONCE AGAIN this season....Do NOT look for him to be a "homer" again in re-structuring his contract or taking less money just to stay here.....in my opinion, he is going to be pissed if Moss, Stallworth, and Gaff are all gone after this FA spree....and he will see that NE will not spend the money long term to provide the weapons for Brady to compete with.......I look for him to play hardball on his next contract and either Kraft steps up and stops being a tightwad......or Brady will do a Montana.....and go elsewhere for the payday..........one man's opinion!

Yeah, I'll bet it bothers you as much as it did when they cut Lawyer Milloy.

Will you guys freaking chill?

Every year we lose about a quarter to a third of our team, just like every other team in the NFL.

There are about 7-8 players on hte team who were here for SB XXXVI.

Turnover is the name of the game.

Chill out.

Re: Latest on Moss from Clayton...

They better get something back from the offense.

Re: Latest on Moss from Clayton...

I think that Randy will sign with the Pats. I lean towards them having a done deal but can imagine Randy wanting to wait a bit to announce. I mean, why announce today when everyone else is announcing. Why not wait a few days to have the day all to little ole self...lol.

That said...I do think Randy is looking for a big contract. And I don't blame him. If Samuel is good for 9.5 million then Randy is certainly going to want more than that.

I hear you but they've only lost Asante. Let's all just take a deep breath and show some patience. The Pats walk quietly and carry a big stick. They are going to improve the team how they see fit. Not how Felger or any of us do.

Re: Latest on Moss from Clayton...

if this were true...wouldnt we hear something about him visiting other teams??

Just stop. How the hell can you possibly say that? If they lose Moss, who is our #1? Chad Jackson, Washington, then what? Suddenly this team has needs on both sides of the ball, no way can you fix that in one offseason. If they lose Moss and let all the others walk, there is no defending it. You can't handle turn over like that. Your comparing a safety who was declining to a guy who just tore the league up.

Re: Latest on Moss from Clayton...

So I look at him going to other teams as him trying to get a little bit of more coin off the patriots.
But i am officially concerned moss won't be back.
What scares me and I don't care who says what it looks like the other 3 teams in the division our building to improve.
We might be asleep at the wheel.

Well I would certainly agree with that.....If Kraft DECIMATES his WR corps by not re-signing anyone.....he is missing it.....I am sure he is aware by now....YOU NEED TO SPEND money to MAKE money.........signing Moss....WILL BRING IN F'ING REVENUE Robert!!!!!

They probably should have tagged him in hindsight....because now they are up a f'in free agency river without a paddle.........wow.....

I agree with this post and the last three posts at that. I think the Pats are going into a rebuilding mode even if Moss is re-signed. Especially on the defensive side. However, the Pats are probably one team that can rebuild and still compete for a championship at the same time.

Re: Latest on Moss from Clayton...

It could be that Moss is being ******* ridiculous, you just don't know. But if they're not offering him a good deal, I don't know what to think. I feel like i'm stuck in the ocean with a nasty wave current making me siiiick. Enough of the rumors.....

Re: Latest on Moss from Clayton...

Guys -- whatever is happening is not haphazardly happening to the Pats without their control.

Whatever the team looks like in camp, it's pursuant to a philosophy, of which we are unlikely entirely aware at this time. Now, it could be a bad philosophy, or it could be a good one. But whatever it is, it's been formulated by people with a pretty good track record. I have no problem letting it play out.

Re: Latest on Moss from Clayton...

And the pats did not tag moss because he had that in his contract. They had all the silly you have to behave stuff so his agent had the cannot tag him clause. And that could be a good thing or a bad thing time will tell.

I have a problem when the FO is toying with the best Qb in the NFL.. lets see: Let his top 2 WRs in Branch and Givens walk, sign Caldwell Doug Gabriel and Gaffney, next season get Moss, Stallworth, next off season most likely gonna loose the both of em, how bout some damn stability at the position!

I agree. IF they don't re-sign Moss they better go get someone good as Brady is going to be seriously pissed.

For all you know, Brady is consulted. Who knows.

"Stability at the position" sounds like one of those platitudes like "run to set up the pass." Our coach doesn't believe in platitutes. He believes in trying to figure out the best chance to win football games -- even if that means picking the 51 percent chance over the 49. All a team can do is put itself in position to win the super bowl, which ours has been 2 years in a row. And then, it's up to the bounce or a play here or there.

The goal is to get back to that position. If you worry about every battle along the way, you forget that the goal is to win the war. If you're going to fall in love with any particular player, you're following the wrong team. Even Brady won't be immune soon.
