Mark Schlereth, NFL Live, 2/15/2008:
Well Mark, unless you think there is a difference between the coaching staff gaining an unfair advantage and the front office doing so, you should be bothered. Very bothered:
Broncos Penalized Again for Salary Cap Violations
Either Mr. Schereth is a disengengious two-faced liar, or he has been living in a cave for the past 5 years. How he can sit there with a straight face and say "it would bother him" if he found out the team he was on was cheating - while discussing the Patriots and implying that all his Super Bowl teams were squeaky clean, is simply staggering to contemplate.
"I'll guarantee you one thing. I was fortunate - I played for three world championship teams. I look back on that and I think our Denver Broncos teams of the late nineties were some of the best teams that have ever played in the National Football League. I would be sorely disappointed if I found out that our coaching staff was getting an unfair advantage by taping things because then I would question, 'where we really one of the best teams or did we do it in an unfair manner?' That would bother me."

The penalties imposed Thursday on the Denver Broncos for violations of the league's rules regarding the disclosure of deferred compensation to players and the salary cap were the second sanctions against the team for similar infractions in less than three years.
In December 2001, the Broncos were fined $968,000 and lost a third-round pick in the 2002 draft for violations reportedly relating to $29 million in deferred payments to [the two biggest stars of the 1997 and 1998 Super Bowl winning teams] quarterback John Elway and running back Terrell Davis.
On Thursday, the league announced that the Broncos have been fined $950,000 and will lose a third-round selection in next year's draft for circumventing the salary cap between 1996 and '98. The penalties were set in an agreement between the league, the Players Association and the Broncos and resolve a case against the team brought before the sport's special master by the NFL's Management Council in January 2003, the league announced.
