    Mark Schlereth, NFL Live, 2/15/2008:

Well Mark, unless you think there is a difference between the coaching staff gaining an unfair advantage and the front office doing so, you should be bothered. Very bothered:

Broncos Penalized Again for Salary Cap Violations

Either Mr. Schereth is a disengengious two-faced liar, or he has been living in a cave for the past 5 years. How he can sit there with a straight face and say "it would bother him" if he found out the team he was on was cheating - while discussing the Patriots and implying that all his Super Bowl teams were squeaky clean, is simply staggering to contemplate.

It's funny, becuase he goes on all the ESPN shows, all the time. And NOBODY ever has the balls to ask him about it. And that goes for Steve Young too.

But it's not just the ESPN people because these guys go on other radio shows as guests all the time. Nobody ever calls them out on their hypocrisy. It's quite annoying.

    No Jersey Selected

Because you can't criticize the on-air personalities no matter what (unless you're Michael Irvin, get arrested and then get fired). The Sports Guy has mentioned many times how he can't criticize the espn people even though you can tell he has a few rants stored away.

    #87 Jersey

ESPN controls that .. there are rules about what they can do or they won't return to do the guest spots.

yeah, a lot of celeberty guests will not go on shows unless they have an agreement before the program about what can and can't be asked. That is why you see people like Jay Leno and others not asking tough questions. Some even go as far as saying that they will only answer certain things and that those are the questions or subjects that need to be talked about.

Well Schlereth really wasn't lying. The Broncos didn't get an unfair advantage by taping. They got an unfair advantage by cheating the cap. Maybe getting an unfair advantage by cheating the cap isn't enough to make him question his team.

Personally, I think cheating the cap is a worse crime because you can actually get a real, tangible advantage. Although the Broncos deny it, they were able to at least have better depth on their team because they cheated to get more cap room.

I know what you guys are saying. But it doesn't seem like these Broncos cap schenanigans are that much in the forefront of anyones minds when talking about this stuff. When people talk about whether the Pats wins are tainted, nobody mentions Denver and San Fran and their salary cap situations, and that's if Schlereth or Young are present or not.

To Steve Young. That was the season high point of Monday NFL Countdown.

It's partly because people didn't make as big of a deal about it even when it happened barring Al Davis who no one takes seriously.

Let's face it. Violating cap rules by illegally manupulating bonuses isn't sexy for the media. It isn't even that sexy for capologists (maybe Miguel would disagree).

Spygate is very sexy for the media. It has espianage. They can paint Belichick as a villian. It can raise debate on whether the Pats Super Bowls are tainted.

Money and cap violations are just not going to stay in the mind of media and fans. No one remembers the "scandal" where Dan Marino bought $390k worth of stock from one of Wayne Huizenga's other company that ballooned up to to $2 million. It was a special stock purchase price that Marino got. No one remembers how the 49ers got Sega and Nike to offer Deion Sanders endorsement deals only if he came to play for San Fran.

I don't know much about Mark. I will admit that I found him cute. What I cannot abide by is any form of hypocrisy. Hate it...probably why I like BB. Anyhow, I sent him an email. I know he could care less but I feel better after sending it. And I no longer find him cute...lol.

Anyhow, what did Parcells say to Young?

the broncos stole signals, and mike shanahan bragged about it. It was cute back then.

"Our guy keeps a pair of binoculars on their signal-callers every game," says Broncos coach Mike Shanahan. "With any luck, we have their defensive signals figured out by halftime. Sometimes, by the end of the first quarter."

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_game/magazine/life_of_reilly/news/2002/01/09/life_of_reilly/

So it has been said by many of the haters, that the reason video vs. other forms of spying is more of a competetive advantage is because it can be quickly decoded and synced possibly for use during the same game. Well, there is no difference here... Shanahan had the signals figured out by the first quarter. Now thats efficiency!

I don't recall whether Davis said that, but he was definitely full of sanctimonious criticism of BB and the Patriots in the aftermath of Spygate, phase I.

I am starting to wonder if Comcast and the other big cable companies have a cozy relationship with Disney (ESPN's corporate parent). ESPN's reporting has just been SO biased:

    1. Their own reporter, Chris Mortenson, reported that there was nothing new in the "revelations" last week that the Patriots were taping since 2001. He said it was reported back in September, although no one paid much attention. And Goodell said last week that he knew in September the team had been following the practice since 2001 of taping the other teams' coaches from the sidelines, and that his original punishment was for that whole period. And yet this week ESPN is treating it like shocking new crimes. They have said nothing of the facts revealed by Mortenson and Goodell. (But why let facts get in the way of sensationalistic stories that cause people to tune in and sell ads, no matter whose reputation is tarnished?)

    2. How about the poll they posted within the past day or two, asking what the penalties should be for the Patriots' "new" transgressions? There was no option such as "None, they have already been penalized for this". Instead, the only options were things like "Forfeit all their games since 2000", "Give back their Super Bowl Trophies", "Forfeit their 2009 1st round pick", etc. The "softest" choice was "something else", which could be taken to mean "nothing" or (more likely) to mean something else (like all of the above, or capital punishment or ...).

I am almost getting to the point that, despite my off-season hunger to fill the emptiness of the off-season, I can't watch ESPN anymore. It is just so full of BS.

I tried to find the article again just so I could double check that info, but couldnt find it. So whatever, if he did or didnt...theyre still in denial if thats what mark's position is.:)
