Oh boy, just heard it, he really is sounding off!

The tone in his voice, oh boy, Denny Green esque! Great reporting ESPN!

I mentioned a few weeks ago that the media was on the trail of a "story-line" and they weren't going to let go. Whatever they can find to feed the story-line, they'll use. Other stuff gets downplayed or ignored. That's the way it goes in most of the media now, and the sports media is some of the worst in the country. Just terrible.

Screw them all. If you don't want to win every single play, go find something else to do with your life. I like Brady's quote, and I LOVE Gay's.

The NFL is the pansiest league I've ever seen. Did the NBA go nuts when the Bulls were blowing everyone out by 20-30 every night in the 90s? Do teams moan and cry if the Sox keep hitting home runs when they're up by 10? But suddenly the NFL is a bunch of Miss Manners clucking over the poor, fragile psyches of the teams the Patriots play. What a freaking joke. I've seen youth leagues that had a stronger mentality than the bunch of Nancys in the NFL right now. Just pathetic.

RIGHT ON THE MONEY!!!!!!

I actually can't believe more in the media don't latch onto the same philosophy you espouse here. Not only is it solid, it is "THE TRUTH". Of all the major sports, football is "supposed" to be the toughest, manliest, most inhumane of the them all. But all we hear is a bunch of wussies crying in their soup.

Hey guys I heard that the pats were caught taping signals and lost a first round pick. With all of what the media and fans have said I wonder if they're gonna be merciless with every team they play?

Just heard it. The most innocuous comments I ever heard. Geez, talk about a big ado about nothing.

I'm actually a little surprised (and embarrased) by what Brady and Gay said. I'm very shocked Brady said "we wanna kill teams" , that was so un-Brady like. Nobody in any sport has ever said anything like that, they may think it, but they never say it. I think Belichick should talk to Brady and Gay, and tellem both to STFU. I'm sorry, I'm the biggest Pat's fan out there, but there is no need to say the things both of them are saying. Gay is another story, how dare he say the opponent's D shouldn't be paid, just because they gave up 56 doesn't mean they weren't trying. It just turns out that Buffalo just isn't nearly as talented as the Pats. Flame away fellas (and ladies), but this is just how I feel. Out of context or not, I heard both of them say these words.

Well, you San Francisco folks must have really hated Conan's thoughts on victory then. May I suggest figure skating as a more appropriate sports venue? Whoops, my bad. Forgot about that Tonya Harding thing. No, not the porn film, the kneecap thing.

Nancy Kerrigan really rode up the score in that Olympic games. Classless whore. She made poor Tonya cry. What would Tony Dungy say?

Re: Players ... getting loose lips ...

I agree. At this point, isn't what Brady said kind of obvious? And now that he's said it, all of the sudden other teams will be motivated? Give me a break.

I agree - even out of context EVERY football player would LIKE to blow out their opponent and have the game locked up in the third quarter.

The problem is, generally they CAN'T!

Actually i am most pleased by TB's response...it is a breath of fresh air "Brady is a Winner" and unlike most professional athletes today he does not keep score based on the size of his contract BUT BY THE SCORE ON THE SCOREBOARD. That makes me as a fan a winner....so for me I love his attitude and his WINNING.

Since the beginning of the season I have been saying ESPN is becoming the National Enquirer of Sports

Yeah, Tom "I'll make up some stuff so I sound like an expert" Jackson still works there.....

Actually, I'm originally from NYC, and I'm back in NYC. I've been a Patriot's fan since 1975 (was a big Mack Herron fan, I'll give kudo's to any NEW Pat's fan who knows his number), and will stay a Pat's fan until the day I die. I do thank you for your brilliant response, really added a lot to the discussion.

Scott99, what you have to remember about Gay's comments is that they were made specifically in response to defensive players whining about the score being run up. Not the Bills defense. ANd in that context, he is absolutely right.

As for Brady, his comments aren't really a big deal or even a surprise. What I think is ridiculous is the expectation that the Patriots can be continually dumped on, but they are allowed NO response whatsoever save an "Aw, shucks, we are just playing the game" one? Either way, they are being killed in the media, why not just stick up for yourself.

No problem. Let us know how the figure skating works out! If that turns out to be too vicious, there's always Ice Dancing!

Nobody in any sport has ever said anything like that, they may think it, but they never say it.

Ivan Drago: "I will break you."
Rocky Balboa: "Go for it."

No, you are not. I mean, you may be sorry, but you are not the biggest Pats fan out there unless you weigh 500 pounds.

You're just another guy willing to lie to trash the Pats. "Nobody in any sport has ever said" they wanted to go out there and dominate other teams. I'd ask how you pould possibly know that, but I'm sure the truth of the statement isn't important to you. Make up whatever you want to shed the Pats in a bad light. You have a lot of company. Except of course that they don't claim to be "the biggest Pats fan out there."

Gay and Brady were both taken out of context. Non-Pats fans will not care about that, and will accept the ESPN tailored quotes. That is to be expected. For all I know Mercury Morris was taken out of context, but I don't care to check it out. That's because I'm not a Dolphins fan, any more than you are a Pats fan.

You are entitled to you opinion about Brady and the Patriots. As I said, it is shared by just about everyone south and west of Hartford, CT. Just please stop pretending about being "the biggest Pats fan out there." Unless of course, you really do weigh 500 pounds.

"Coming up next on <insert one of SportsCenter, PTI, NFL Live, Outside the Lines, NFL Countdown>...the guys discuss <insert one of "who can beat the Pats", "the Pats running up the scores", "Moss vs. TO">. Later, we look at <insert story not used above>."

Did anyone see the segment of why the Pats are on the way down, and their window of success is now on ethe way out? I missed that segment if someone could summarize it for me.

People forget the insane drive that makes Brady SO good. He has said numerous times that he competes full bore at EVERYTHING, board games, whatever. He's the offensive complement to the maniacle Full Tilt, Full Time Teddy Bruschi. Brady's honesty is a shock to an audience accustomed to trite responses.

The other thing that unthinking fans mistake for arrogance from the Patriots is their calm, methodical approach to offense. Just a brief celebration upon a TD and then back to business. I sit where Brady warms up and he is serious and totally focused on his warmups never glancing or noticing the front row seats. All business. This seems robotic and uncaring to some and they read the players and coach's behaviour as arrogance. They forget that of all teams the Pats RARELY comment negatively against another team's player, BB on Freddie Mitchell being one of the handfull of exceptions. :)

I used to weigh 250, does that count ? So I see, unless you live in New England, you can't be a true New England fan huh ? I guess that goes for the wonderful fans who post here from England, Italy, etc ?

If you see how many posts I've had in here the last couple of years, I guess I must be some troll fan of another team because I don't live in the heart of New England, and I disagree with your views in this thread. Gimme a break, lol.

As for WickedPissah.....as far as the Ice Skating comments, The only Ice Skating I've ever done was while playing hockey (I have a couple of scars to show for it). I've never really watched ice dancing or what ever you're talking about, but I will admit, some of the women in those sports are pretty hot !! So if you're trying to comment about my manhood, if looking at hot women in skimpy outfits skating on the ice make me less of a man than you, then you sir, are a bigger man than me.

:)

honestly you need to listen to the whole interview and the questions that were asked. When the hosts keep asking about running up the score and why brady is in the game he responded. Also the complete quote sounds much different that what espn portrays. Same with Gay. He was asked what he thinks when opposing defensive players say we are running up the score. His response was directed at them .ESPN decided it was directed at the bills.

exactly.

And Gay's actual quote was much different than ESPN's Paraphrasing of it:

The original:
Reporter:
You hear people saying 'the Patriots are running up the score, they don't have any sportsmanship, they're the team everybody loves to hate because they don't have any mercy.' When you hear that kind of talk from people, what is your reaction and what would you like to say to those people?

R. Gay:
"Basically, you have to ignore those people because this is a job. We're out there, and what are we supposed to do? Like we scored on defense, when Ellis [Hobbs] caught the fumble, should he have taken a knee because we were up by so much? We're out there to do our job, just like they're out there to do their job. It kind of makes me mad when you hear somebody from the other team's defense going 'they shouldn't have done thatl; that's disrespect.' Do we think it's disrespect when they went and picked up their checks for letting a team score 50 points on them? That should be disrespect, that you went to your owner and said 'All right, pay me for that game I just played.' You can't look at it like that. You have to go out there and do your best. If somebody is blowing you out, you have to play harder. You have to stop them."

Now he didn't quite say "I'd be embarrassed to pick up my check if I played for the Bills" did he?

Brady was asked directly about running up the score, and the idiot he was talking to on multiple times tried to insist that NE could take the starters out earlier, and NE was basically running up the score.
