Tomase: Maroney OUT

A source with knowledge of the situation.

Someone who would talk to Tomase.

Seems to be mutually exclusive.

Maybe it's the same source that told him there was a surprise cut when the roster was trimmed?

Isn't Sammy Morris a very good backup though?

In Miami last year, he played very well when Ronnie Brown was injured, and in that Cincy Mon Nighter, he played very well throughout the game.

he's had back-to-back 100 yard games so I'd say he's a pretty good backup. lol!

Anyone saying that this must be a lie, and that maroney is playing; how can you say that? The only thing that Maroney has kept consistant so far in his NFL career is being injured. It would be no surprise if he were out.

Frankly I'm starting to get quite sick of post like this. Maroney hasn't consistantly been injured, and that isn't the only thing consistant to date during his NFL career. The guy missed two freakin' games last year man, that means he played in 15 others. He's missed a few games with a groin this year, at least it's not because of his shoulder again, that I'd be worried about. Last year (in only 15 games) Maroney put up 745 yards rushing (4.3avg) with 6 TD's while backing up/splitting time with Corey Dillon. Let's not forget he also had 738 yards on kick returns with an avg of 28.0 (pretty damn good). This year before missing these few games with injury Maroney was averaging 4.7 ypc.

Don't confuse them with FACTS. They are the football version of Stephen Colbert's notion of "truthiness." It FEELS like Maroney never plays and is made of glass and was a bust last year who "couldn't HANDLE a full load," so even if that's not the case - even if, say, the Patriots had a VETERAN RB in Dillon - they still intuit that Laurence Maroney is a piece of junk, wasn't productive, and STILL isn't productive. And that all he does is "dance behind the line," that 4.7 ypc be damned!

Fair enough. We'll see. And then...I, and I assume many others, will be merciless.

Although Maroney not playing wouldn't be a surprise....,

I'm hoping he'll play just to make Thomase look like a big doof..........AGAIN!

I actually like Tomase, but in this instance, I'm with you.

Fellers,

I don't mind giving Maroney a bit of slack in this situation. I've had a groin pull, and it takes a fair amount of time to heal up. Besides which, Maroney doesn't get to make the call whether he will play or not. That's up to the medical staff and BB.

Also, I'd offer up that's it's better to let him heal up now if he needs to and get him back when the weather really starts to turn. It'd be nice to have a reasonably fresh set of legs at the RB position then.

Just sayin'

Although I don't know if I am ready to believe this report, this thread sounds eeriliy similiar to the Tomase bashing when everyone was convinced he fed out bad information announcing Bruschi broke his wrist last year. Or when he said last year that sources close to Belichick says that Belichick was really high on Randy Moss about 8 months before he trades him.

I'm sorry, Tomase is fairly on the money in his scoops.

Tomase has nailed many scoops. Somehow the younger, petulant Patriots fans take this as some kind of swipe at New England and get all red in the face. He had this long before anyone else. Would I like him to be wrong? of COURSE. But I'm not going to kill the messenger just because he carries bad news.

Sorry guys - I am not convinced. Tomase is not very well liked around the team - so, who could this source with knowledge of the situation possibly be?

If anything, it makes me think he IS playing, just to show up JT.

Tomasse has had an EXCELLENT track record of 1st reporting Patriots player injury situations. If he's wrong here, it will be a rare miss. He obviously DOES have a source(s).

Yep. Totally. Remember when people got all pissed off that Tomase daned to report that Bruschi broke that bone in his hand. "How does HE know?" Just asinine stuff.

He made his bones with me on that one. I don't like his editorial mode writing but respect his scoops. He's a rare reporter.

FWIW, the article about Maroney was by Karen Guregian not Tomase; he just copied it to his blog, I don't think this info initiated from Tomase.

A groin is something that is readily reinjured. Why is it so hard for people to believe that he will be kept out as a precaution? Keep in mind that we can afford to lose this game, as long as we beat indy. BB is not going to risk lsing such a key component for the game that WILL determine home field in the AFC.

I don't find it hard to believe they'd keep him out as a precaution at all, and I actually believe that's just the case. If you'd seen Maroney in practice he looked fine. Also, some of the stretches I've got photos of Maroney doing in practice aren't so fun when you've got a groin injury and he was doing them fine.

Funny thing is it seems groin injuries are the big thing this year. Every year there seems to be a certain injury that a lot of players get. I know McNair, T. Jackson, Maroney and some other players have all had groin injuries already this season.

wendi nix on ESPN said the same thing just now

I wanted to add that on game day the other week (I think it was the bengals game) there was a report that Maroney would play, then just prior to the game other reports said he was out.

She was quoting "reports" you realize she's probably talking about the same reports we're all reading, right?
