Dan Marino, who is still gloating about spygate, and recently got out of the hospital after having his grin surgically removed from his face, is probably the biggest media hoax of all-time. No "spin" on any story or person has ever approached the decade-long ball washing of Dan of the Man, which goes something like this: "Dan Marino never won because he never had a defense." "Dan Marino never won because he never had a running game." "Dan Marino never won because there was a full moon on his 29th birthday."
Dan Marino never won because Dan Marino was the biggest choker of all-time (with apologies to Peyton "3 TDs, 7 INTs" Manning.)
It's no wonder that Marino takes every opportunity to put down a winning franchise. His long, nightmarish postseason career went a little worse than Ben Stiller's high school prom date with Cameron Diaz, dragged out over 17 seasons. It ended in a fitting 62-7 Maddenesque thumping to Jacksonville, a predictable ending to the biggest disappointer of all-time.
In 10 of 18 postseason games, "Dan the Man" threw two or more interceptions. Statistically, the odds of winning a postseason game with this stat is less than 15%.
In games where Marino threw only 1 INT or less, the Dolphins went 7-1.
In games where Marino threw 2 or more INTs, the Dolphins went 1-9.
In 1983, the Dolphins boasted the #1 scoring defense in the league. They lost their first playoff games after Marino threw 2 INTs in 25 attempts.
In 1990, the Dolphins boasted the #4 scoring defense in the league. They lost to the Bills when Marino threw 2 INTs.
In 1998, the Dolphins again boasted the #1 scoring defense in the league. They lost to the Broncos when Marino threw 2 INTs.
In 17 seasons, Marino's offensive line combined for 20 pro bowl selections.
In 17 seasons, Marino's receivers and tight ends combined for 13 pro bowl selections.
That's 33 pro bowl players in 17 seasons, or almost two every season. Tom Brady has had Matt Light, Corey Dillon, and Troy Brown (3), in six seasons.
