How many more years do you see BB coaching? For example, would he stay on a year or two after Brady leaves/ retires to help groom the new QB? Factors such as family, health, drive will likely play a role. I'm assuming Kraft would never ever consider firing him, thus why I worded question this way.

He says he's not coaching into his 70's and he's 64. Do the math.

Although, I think he'll stick around the Pats in some capacity. You can't keep him far from the game.

I'm not sure there's any way to tell for sure with Bill. I believe his comment about not coaching into his 70s was made more than a coup!e of years ago. When you're in your 50's, 70 seems decades away. At 64, not so far away. I think he still loves it and as long as that's true, I think he'll be doing it even if it takes him past the magic 70 mark. As for sticking around in another capacity, I'm not sure. It'll be hard enough for the person who succeeds him, let alone having Bill around looking over your shoulder.

He also said that in 2009. How many of us stick to plans we made 7 years ago?

Maybe he'll be the new Ernie Adams to Josh McDaniel's BB...

I think he's going to coach until he doesn't

Right, maybe he will, maybe he won't but it's silly for people to continue to bring that up. If he's healthy, enjoying it and closing in on Shula he probably keeps going. If he's getting worn down he'll walk.

How many of us are a genius on the level of BB?

Genius has what, exactly, to do with someone's plans changing?

In 4 years, if we're lucky enough to continue to get 12+ wins a season, would have Belichick sitting at around 45 wins from Shula's record. The temptation to try to overtake Shula is going to be real when Belichick starts having to make career choices.

Not sure.. But referring to it is as his "Fate" is troubling somewhat.

Correct. He made the comment 7 years ago

I see you got your nominee for "Most Ominous PatsFans Thread Title of 2016" in just under the wire.

I was expecting a poll full of stuff like "Drawn and/or quartered" and "Sharks with frickin' laser beams."

Given BB's tenure as HC of the NYJ, he of all people should know the problems he'll cause sticking around in another capacity.

He didn't actually definitively say that. He made an off the cuff comment, quite a few years ago that you shouldn't expect to see him coaching in his 70s like Marv Levy.
There is no rule that since he made such a comment once he can't change his mind when he approaches 70.

One thing we can be sure of. When BB retires it will be time for many posters on this board to retire as well.
BB being BB holds back the crazies that are Monday Morning QBs, without that, literally every 40 seconds something will happen that will create a new doom and gloom, I know more than the coach post.

I think BB will coach long enough to help his son get a prominent coordinator/head coaching job in the league before he calls it quits.
